Imperial Oatmeal Stout

This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

Very little head with syrupy pour. Nice nose with decent taste. Not the best oatmeal stout but a good tasting beer for getting it for free.

From Aug 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John! A nice close to pitch black in colour with an inch of tan foam. That soon disappears barely leaving even a ring around the glass. The smell has notes of roasted malt, some caramel and some fruit. The taste has a good robust roastiness up front, with mild coffee and more noticeable chocolate, both milk and bitter. Nice flavour here. The sweet and the bitter are very balanced and it's no chore to take sip after sip. Mouthfeel borders on medium, the carbonation also borders on medium, it finishes with a good dark chocolate bitterness that is long lasting. A nice brew and the 9%abv is very well hidden. Well, this is my first Stoudt's brew that I'm reviewing and I think I'll try to find some more of their "stuff" in the future.

We picked this one up because we wanted to support the fat dog in their struggle against weight bias. It is a year old but was on sale so what can you do. This is the first review of my 30s, and if it were up to me I would say "smells like wet dog, tastes like wet dog, too smoky to exist, 2.7." But, booboo likes it, so what can ya do. Apparently the aroma is sweet smoke and syrupy brown sugar, the appearance is dark brown/black, and the taste is a slight mouth yak feel of a Baltic porter combined with a blunt sugary fizz.Good for onesie juiceing on a Wednesday night with your cutie patootie.

12 oz bottle. The pour is a nice black-ish color with a thin ring of light khaki head, somewhat bubbly. It poured a bit thin, but it’s not terrible. The aroma is interesting. There is a light roastiness to it and a bit of chocolate. A light sweetness and a hint of metallic exists. It’s a little sweeter and there is a hint of licorice and a slight bittering aspect to it. The flavor is interesting. There is a lot more of a bitter roast and a chocolate. The metallic tendency of the malts is in full swing. It’s got a dark fruit thing happening that isn’t the best, but it adds something. The mouth feel is decently thick with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly metallic sweetness on the finish. Meh.

Pours a flat cloudy brown. Looks a bit watery. Aroma of syrup and light coffee notes. Taste is sweet with a slightly coffee note.

Poured from a 12ozbottle. Black ink with a tan head. Coffee and chocolate nose. Delicious taste with bitter bakers chocolate and milkshake mouthfeel. A classic that I haven’t had in years. Cheers!

bB backlog, bottle from Canals West Deptford. Faced on a cold night in December. Pours a deep black color with a medium sized head. Notes are huge on fudge and other sweet chocolate. Also some dark malt, toast, and coffee. Really creamy and smooth mouthfeel. I like this stout from stoudts

2915 vintage. A good imperial stout just short of extraordinary. One is probably enough.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at "The Pub" in Gettysburg, PA. This beer is a pitch black offering with a nice tan head. The aromas is full of roasted grains and cocoa. the taste is a lot like the aroma with some cocoa, coffee and malt blended well for a flavorful event. My favorite Imperial Oatmeal Stout to date.
