Imperial Oatmeal Stout

This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

Nice sweet chocolate smell. Not much head, pretty listless appearance. Nice solid stout. Wouldnt of thought this was an imperial though. Pretty simple with not a huge body. That being said it is very good, just fairly simple. Alcohol is barely noticeable.

Pours a flat cloudy brown. Looks a bit watery. Aroma of syrup and light coffee notes. Taste is sweet with a slightly coffee note.

bB backlog, bottle from Canals West Deptford. Faced on a cold night in December. Pours a deep black color with a medium sized head. Notes are huge on fudge and other sweet chocolate. Also some dark malt, toast, and coffee. Really creamy and smooth mouthfeel. I like this stout from stoudts

2915 vintage. A good imperial stout just short of extraordinary. One is probably enough.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at "The Pub" in Gettysburg, PA. This beer is a pitch black offering with a nice tan head. The aromas is full of roasted grains and cocoa. the taste is a lot like the aroma with some cocoa, coffee and malt blended well for a flavorful event. My favorite Imperial Oatmeal Stout to date.

A nice stout has all the flavors you would hope for. Toasty malty enjoyable in most every way. A bit thin on the tongue though.

12 oz brown bottle; Lot #721; Bottled date of August 2014.. Pours dark brown, looking black in the snifter. The light brown head has a creamy look and good retention. This has a full and very smooth mouthfeel, but with some light heat fro alcohol. The aroma carries the usual mix of dark malts and oats, with little in the way of alcohol esters, but with a touch of spiciness (hops?). The flavor also reflects some spicy hops but is dominated by dark roasted grains. Minimal sourness. Mildly bitter. Some chocolate with only faint raisins and vague dark fruit in the flavor.

Bottle: Pitch black, inky body with a light-tan creamy head that doesnt last. Aroma of bakers chocolate, bitter cocoa dust, licorice, creamy oatmeal, a small hint of brown sugar, & mild coffee beans. Flavor is smooth, good balance of bitter & sweet. Oatmeal, chocolate, hints of coffee, faint anise, a touch of roast & char nearing the finish. Body could be a little thicker, but overall this was pretty tasty.

This was poured into a mini snifter. The appearance was a dark brown color with no head and no lacing. The smell had a nice sweet milk chocolate and dark choclate with roasty coffee tones roaming around the beer. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors to combine. Sweet gentle tones. A nice sweet rolling roasty aftertaste leads to a quick dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping to sessionable quality about it. Carbonated nicely, the oatmeal helps to balance to a decent grainy feel. Overall, Im quite pleased with this beer and would have it again.
