Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2015 Compra: www.cervezasespeciales.com Opinion: Buena cerveza aunque tampoco excepcional. Se nota cierto sabor como a regaliz en ella.

Bottle at a BOSS meeting. Pours amber with a very creamy persistent off white head. Aroma is lots of caramel, some dark fruits, malty. Flavor follows. Alcohol was noticeable. Thin bodied. Very nice beer.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2015 2015/04/26 - Bottle at De Halve Maan brewery in Brugge. Pours a dark mahogany/amber colour with a soapy, khaki head that slowly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is dough, brown sugar, caramel, gingerbread, molasses, tobacco, pepper, dark fruits. Taste follows nose; sweet bread, molasses, dates and mildly toasted notes. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy with average, smooth carbonation and a semi sweet, slightly roasted and slightly boozy, warming finish. Very enjoyable. I will be aging this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cloudy dark tea color with some floaties and an off white head with little lacing.

jahshuwuh (567) - USA - APR 17, 2015
Dark tea brown with floaters, no head. Smells of caramel, tomato. Taste is like a sweet tea, alcohol burn, caramel, tannins, a bitter tea like quality almost like a rye bread a little hop spice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

McSherman (683) - North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - APR 15, 2015
Dennoch gutes Bier!

phaleslu (10247) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 15, 2015
Draft at Yard House - CIncinnati. Pours a cloudy brown color with a small off-white head that settles into a ring and leaves spots of film. Notes of figs, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toast, sweet bread, cake, earth, and dates. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet and actually kind of toasty mouthfeel. Rich and tasty. ABV is pretty much masked. Good quad.

Wanne (65) - - APR 13, 2015
Color is deep, dark red, with a beige head. Aroma of caramel and red fruit. Hints of coffee and port make for a strong taste and is accompagnied with a nice alcoholic warmth. Very good beer.
