Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Luumu (27) - , FINLAND - NOV 4, 2014
Tumma, läpinäkymätön, kirkas. Vaahto katoava, vaalea rusehtava. Tuoksu puhdas, suklaata, kahvia. Maku makea, ei juurikaan läpipistävää alkoholia, hedelmäinen, paahteinen. Suutuntuma hento, kevyen hapokas, samenttinen. Kaikkiaan todella miellyttävä juotava.

Strong dark ale, solid foam head. Full bodied malty character with spicy bitter aftertaste.

YantarCoast (1625) - Moscow, RUSSIA - OCT 27, 2014
330ml bottle from Bochka in Moscow. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is fruit, Turkish delight, and a sort of floweriness (perhaps rose). Taste is similar. Alcohol is extremely well masked.

330ml bottle [kindly donated by bartlebier, thank you very much!]. Coffee brown colour with average, frothy, rock solid, fully lasting, off-white head. Dark fruity aroma, notes of dried dark fruit and their parings as well, minimally spicy, yeasty overtones. Taste belongs to the same genre, more intense, multifaceted and complex, with additional moderately sweet chocolate notes, oscillating between raisin, plum, blue grapes etc. Oily texture, slightly sticky palate. Pure pleasure.

330mL bottle BB 26-11-2016 Lively deep brown body, holds a nice creamy beige head, leaving clumpy lace. Rich sugary aroma; treacley, molasses, dates & prunes. rum & raisin, some earthy phenolics. Thick, viscous body, lifted creamy carbonation, serious length, smooth warming finish. Particularly earthy on the body. There’s notes of dark brown/cooked sugars, but not particularly sweet, quite savoury, a slight bit tannic & dry with dark fruits & wood spice. Booze is not shy. Tasty stuff, just a touch rough around the edges.

Intensywne w smaku oraz barwie. Piwo o niezwykłym charakterze który umiejętnie maskuje prawdziwą moc (11%).

Vells (1980) - Rīga, LATVIA - OCT 19, 2014
Dark sided quad.Intense malt background, quite intense roast character, dried fruits, lovely candy, toffee, licorice, decent hop presence. Feels quite vinous with dry finish. Mostly sweet with decent bitterness. Lovely and highly enjoyable brew.

UPDATED: JUL 28, 2017 Well, once again- quad is not my style of choice as the complexity is typical and expected. Typical dark quad. not bad, the quality of yeast can be felt, but no hype

Bottle from Supervalu, Longford [161014]
Black with dark brown edges, big frothy tan head, good lacing
Aroma of dark fruits, touch of rum, soft sherry, interesting floral note, slight alcohol, complex
Taste of dark malts, some dark fruits, bit spicy, unusual perfume ester notes, getting some dark chocolate, dab of treacle, complex
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, smooth. Sweet palate. Finish as main flavour, soft sweet smooth dark malt finish
Overall - Alcohol really well hidden. Complex. Some interesting notes in this quad - different to others I’ve tried. Very good. Great to see this in the local supermarket.

Very dark, hazy brown. Thin head and sticky lacing. Aroma- liquorice, dandelion & burdock, sweetness. Taste reflects aroma. Thinner mouthfeel than expected and hides abv well. Classy brew.
