COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks tomer. Murky and very dark brown with beige head. Vinous, sweet aroma, sweet vinous taste. Full-bodied, carbonated and, well, vinous finish. Nice.

Snow day beer. Pours deep dark brown with ample tan head. Scent is grain, dark fruit, molasses, and candy. Sweet front end with dry back. Medium thick body with appropriate level of carbonation. Draft - Brick Store Pub - Decatur, Georgia

Sample shared by a friend. Dark brown pour with a thin beige head that recedes quickly to a wispy film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit and chocolate. Full-bodied and somewhat chewy with flavors of chocolate malt, plums, caramel and yeast. The finish is fruity up front with a toasted malt aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Very nice dark fruity flavors, grapes, Plums, raisins. Nice alcohol burn... very inviting, like a barrel aged quad. Tastes of vanilla, hints of chocolate, and toffee. Aroma is beautiful and pleasureful. Malt complexity of a well crafted Belgian brew. I love this beer and it only gets better with age.

750ml Bottle. the aroma is very sweet and alcoholic - my first thought was that it smells like port. Threes raisins, chocolates and caramel in there as well as more fruitiness. It pours a dark brown almost black body with a thick lasting light tan head. Its taste is very similar to the smell with chocolate more to the fore and with burnt toast in there too. It has a bitter sweet finish. Not as sickly sweet as a lot of strong Belgian beers. Didn’t think Id like this one - but I was wrong!

Bottle. Dark brown with large beige foamy head, caramel aroma, high carbonation, roasted malt taste, full body, very balanced long finish. The strong alcohol content is very nicely balanced.

33cl bottle Appearance: Transparent reish brown pour, thin unstable cloudy head Aroma: Belgian yeast, Esters, red fruit fruit. Taste: Bittersweet with dark fruits, a hint of chocolate and caramelised malts. In the finish it shows some light spices and the alcohol peaks just a bit too much trough. medium body, Oily Texture (less smooth as the heritage version.), medium carbonation,

Bottle. Dark brown with tan head. Aroma of dried3d fruits, belgian yeast esters. Taste of dark fruits, toffee, yeast and nuts. Sweet and bitter, not really my bag.

Temptation (257) - - FEB 4, 2014
Potent, overwhelming beer, deep and complex, that has a wide profile combining notes to almonds, cake, milk chocolate, prunes and red wine with some bitterness which is close to spiciness. The overall is robust, well rounded and finished, with a spicy hint in the finish. The cons: the texture could be smoother and not so watery and the red wine notes are too marked. Nothingless, a very good beer, to repeat.
