COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Backlog. Bottel shared with JMD at HNB 11.05.13. Dark brown. Fantastically nice beige head. Aroma of hops and berries. First taste is of dark berries, then of refreshing hops. Aftertaste is of dark malt with hop bitterness that lingers on. Average carbonation. A suberb beer, and the best quadrupel Ive tasted.

Dark brow, almost black with small, lasting offwhite head. Sweetish aroma, raisins and alcohol. Mothfeel is creamy, malt and caramel. Not too sweet, moderately boozy. Dry but sticky finish.

This is a tasty and sneaky quad. Aroma was very nice. Strong Belgian yeast with a heavy dark fruit note. Pour was a deep dark brown/near black with thick puffy 2 finger tan head. Taste was delicious. Strong on the dark fruit. Fig and plum with a heavy mouth feel. As it warmed a strong brown sugar flavor came out and dominated. There was also hints of toffee and that unmistakable Belgian yeast in the aftertaste. Could barely detect alcohol in this beer and was surprised to see it was 11%. Medium carbonation round it out.

At a tasting, many thanks MrHangover, almost no head, quite clear dark brown colour, aroma of dried cherries and apricots, caramel and light oxidised notes, fruity sour flavour with woody and sherry notes, a bit too light bodied. Quite old but still interesting.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a dense tan head. Rich malty nose with caramel, belgian yeast, raisins, and fruity esters. Flavor was very sweet with caramel, dried dark fruit, raisins, and had a touch of toffee. A decent quad

Serving: 11.2 oz. bottle at Fire Works Leesburg. It pours a hazy brown color with a dense, light tan head. the nose is slightly spicy with light Belgian yeast notes, and a hint of banana. The flavor takes a mellow malt route with some dried fruit, dusty yeast notes, dried banana, and light bubble gum. Medium bodied with high carbonation and a slightly dry finish thanks to the high ABV. A solid quad.
