COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Pours redish brown with a nice beige head. Aroma is ripe fruits with a striking plum character along with raisin, dates, candy, caramel malts, spice, yeast and blackcurrant. Taste is caramel, dark ripe fruits, spice, warming alcohol, candy, solid malty base, notes of hops and liquorice leading to a vinous end.

Pours a beautiful black beer with a good white head. Smells like red wine and sweet. Pretty nice. Taste is quite nice. A bit licorice and chocolate. The palate is perfect with this one.

Zlotta (2509) - Hagen, GERMANY - MAY 26, 2015
0,33 l bottle from drankgigant.nl, best before 28/11/2016. Clear, dark ruby with a medium large, foamy, very slowly diminishing, tan head. Pleasant, fruity aroma of cherries, blackcurrant, plums and port. Intense, sweetish-fruity aroma of cherries, blackcurrant, elderberries and plums, followed by a long, warming, alcoholic finish with little hops, like port and bourbon, but even a little metallic. Full body, oily and creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very good beer but a bit too harsh and thus not up to the styles leaders. I like the fruitiness, though.

Bottle from Sams in Durham. Pours a pleasant caramel brown, a bit hazy. Beige/tan one-finger head. Nose of caramel, stewed fruits, some earth, Belgian sugars and yeast. Solid, if a little boozy. Better warmer and even with some oxidation.

Shared a 33cl bottle from Delheize. Pours a brown colour with a tan persistent head. Aroma is caramel and yeast. Medium carbonation and full body. Flavour is quite light for a 11 ABV beer. Good!

Served cold at the brewery :( Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head that dies almost instantly. The nose is sweet with toffee and caramel notes, dried fruit aromas of prune and raisin about. A bit effervescent on the first sip with a first impression of a syrupy and rich brew. Rich malt profile with a bit of candy sugar and prune notes. Not overly robust but has a nice boozy accent. A good quad!

0,33 l bottle, bought in Amsterdam.
Clear mahagony colored ale with a medium creamy tan head that melts down to a fine lacing one. Intensive herbal aroma with fruity alcohol, cherries, raisins, liqueric, herbs like thyme, cocoa and cinnamon, nutmeg. Oh my god, complex aroma - what about the flavor? Medium, easier bodied than expected. Herbal character with a caramel-toasted cocoa some coffee in the background, spicies. Integrated chaos in the flavor. Cherries and tobacco, earth and herbs, thyme again with some candy sugar. Herbal aftertaste. Very complex, fantastic!

ryanfolty (2455) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - MAR 13, 2013
March 13, 2013 - bottle from Randalls. Dark brown pour with big head that lasted and lacing. Aroma was dark fruit, yeast, spice and sweet malt. Wow super sweet sugary start, then gets spicy, moves into the dark fruit and finishes with some dry alcohol. This is not subtle, the flavors are in your face.
