COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Beese (2669) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - DEC 8, 2014
Bottle at De Halve Maan brewery, Bruges. Poured a really deep mahogany colour, with a big, dense beige head. Massive aroma of prunes, dates, dark malt, black cherries and herbs. Very smooth mouthfeel. Toasted malt in the flavour, with fruitcake and dark rum. Finish was roasted malt, burnt sugar, treacle and slight earth.

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2016 Tartós hab, sürü sör, melyről már a kiöntésekor érződik az extrém alkoholfok, ami az ízét is dominálja, édeskéssé teszi. Majdnem maximum, bár ebben kicsit benne van a hely varázsa is (a helyszínen, Brugge-ben, a sörfőzdében kóstolva).

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a large amount of uneven, golden taupe head. Great color of head. Good lacing. Yeasty, mineral aroma. Almost metallic in smell, unfortunately. Caramel, baked apple, and raisin (raw and cooked) scents. Dark malt flavor. A bit of roast. Tangerine. A metallic sweetness as well as some umami. Very subtle flavors. Lightly bitter aftertaste. Fizzy, lively, fluffy, and frothy in the palate. Easy to drink. I’m not feeling this one, to my surprise. I hope it improves with age. Just not much there in complexity or strength, and there are some unfortunate elements in the aroma (along with some pleasant ones).

Draft at cedar grove NYC. Surprised to see it. Deep blackish purplish color. Head fades. Taste is sweet and syrupy with boozy finish

mariuspoenari (2618) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - DEC 13, 2015
UPDATED: DEC 27, 2016 Dark amber, clear, with a nice, fluffy head with good retention. Smells like caramel, dried fruit, prunes, figs, raisins, some brandy, roasted rye, yeast, all that Belgian goodness. The taste follows the same notes, with prunes and raspberries mixed with burnt sugar and alcohol. Surprisingly dry and light-bodied for a quad, and, together with a medium-high amount of carbonation, it goes down easy. Warm and bitter-sweet aftertaste.

October 2011. From a 750 ml. corked bottle. Poured amber color with a white head. Aromas of dark fruit, brown sugar, yeast and caramel. Very nice ale.

GothGargoyle (2587) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 24, 2014
Rusty brown with a fluffy beige head. Aroma is raisins, brown sugar, apricot, dates, honey, caramel. Full bodied, sweet and complex on the palate, long finish with a little booze. Flavours are raisins, brown sugar, toffee.

Dorwart (2583) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - AUG 15, 2012
Nice strong milk chocolate colored head of fine and dense bubbles. Rich malty aroma with some milk chocolate, sweet malts, raisins and plums. Color is a deep mahagony brown. Lively mouthfeel with more raisins, caramel malts and a feint hint of tart cherry. Light alcohol presence which is quite surprising for an 11% brew. Surprisingly dry finish with lingering sweet malts and alcohol warming. A pretty good brew.

Abijen (2571) - ’s-Hertogenbosch, NETHERLANDS - JUN 6, 2013
Pours a beautiful black beer with a good white head. Smells like red wine and sweet. Pretty nice. Taste is quite nice. A bit licorice and chocolate. The palate is perfect with this one.
