COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Served cold at the brewery :( Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head that dies almost instantly. The nose is sweet with toffee and caramel notes, dried fruit aromas of prune and raisin about. A bit effervescent on the first sip with a first impression of a syrupy and rich brew. Rich malt profile with a bit of candy sugar and prune notes. Not overly robust but has a nice boozy accent. A good quad!

0,33 l bottle, bought in Amsterdam.
Clear mahagony colored ale with a medium creamy tan head that melts down to a fine lacing one. Intensive herbal aroma with fruity alcohol, cherries, raisins, liqueric, herbs like thyme, cocoa and cinnamon, nutmeg. Oh my god, complex aroma - what about the flavor? Medium, easier bodied than expected. Herbal character with a caramel-toasted cocoa some coffee in the background, spicies. Integrated chaos in the flavor. Cherries and tobacco, earth and herbs, thyme again with some candy sugar. Herbal aftertaste. Very complex, fantastic!

Bottle. Brown red with a nice off-white head. Aroma of Candy and spice. Flavour has brown sugar, plums and spices. The alcohol is rampant. Sets your chest cavity alight. Very nice though.

Poured into a tulip glass. Two and half fingers of head on a deep brown colored body. The aroma is a great blend of caramel, apple, pear and other bright fruits. The taste has a big dose of caramel malt sweetness, some fruit, black licorice and mild bitter finish. The texture is fairly smooth with moderate carbonation. Very well done..

Boring!

11.2 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a large amount of uneven, golden taupe head. Great color of head. Good lacing. Yeasty, mineral aroma. Almost metallic in smell, unfortunately. Caramel, baked apple, and raisin (raw and cooked) scents. Dark malt flavor. A bit of roast. Tangerine. A metallic sweetness as well as some umami. Very subtle flavors. Lightly bitter aftertaste. Fizzy, lively, fluffy, and frothy in the palate. Easy to drink. Im not feeling this one, to my surprise. I hope it improves with age. Just not much there in complexity or strength, and there are some unfortunate elements in the aroma (along with some pleasant ones).

Beautiful uneven white head on an almost dark beer. Aroma of bread and molasses, beautiful sticky palate and again that wheat bread and molasses flavor. Beautiful beer.
