COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle at Cambrinus, Bruges, 12th February 17. Pours pretty much black. Aroma is liquorice, dark fruit, prune, wood. Taste is sweet and bitter, liquorice, spice, really smooth, dark fruit, prune juice, so drinkable. Great Quad.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Dark brown color when held towards the light. Large head with very good retention and lacing. Sweet malt and brown sugar in the aroma. Also quite boozy. After tasting I was surprised. It wasn’t as sweet as I expected, and I liked that. Also it didn’t feel like 11% ABV. Medium body with light carbonation. Easy to drink in spite of the high ABV. Overall a very nice quad, I enjoyed it more than some of the bigger names.

0,33 l bottle, bought in Amsterdam.
Clear mahagony colored ale with a medium creamy tan head that melts down to a fine lacing one. Intensive herbal aroma with fruity alcohol, cherries, raisins, liqueric, herbs like thyme, cocoa and cinnamon, nutmeg. Oh my god, complex aroma - what about the flavor? Medium, easier bodied than expected. Herbal character with a caramel-toasted cocoa some coffee in the background, spicies. Integrated chaos in the flavor. Cherries and tobacco, earth and herbs, thyme again with some candy sugar. Herbal aftertaste. Very complex, fantastic!

Beautiful uneven white head on an almost dark beer. Aroma of bread and molasses, beautiful sticky palate and again that wheat bread and molasses flavor. Beautiful beer.

330mL bottle BB 26-11-2016 Lively deep brown body, holds a nice creamy beige head, leaving clumpy lace. Rich sugary aroma; treacley, molasses, dates & prunes. rum & raisin, some earthy phenolics. Thick, viscous body, lifted creamy carbonation, serious length, smooth warming finish. Particularly earthy on the body. There’s notes of dark brown/cooked sugars, but not particularly sweet, quite savoury, a slight bit tannic & dry with dark fruits & wood spice. Booze is not shy. Tasty stuff, just a touch rough around the edges.

Bottle in Santa Barbara shared w/ my Dad. Dark pour with a nice head, full-bodied with the expected dark fruits and brown sugar. Wrong beer for a hot summer’s day but that’s how my old man rolls. None of this artisan fruit berlinerweisse 3.7% wussy shit for him.

Samma återkommer i smaken.
