COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

BOSSbrewer (2705) - Arkansas, USA - APR 26, 2015
Bottle at a BOSS meeting. Pours amber with a very creamy persistent off white head. Aroma is lots of caramel, some dark fruits, malty. Flavor follows. Alcohol was noticeable. Thin bodied. Very nice beer.

Head: beige, medium, frothy, avg. retention. Colour: deep amber-brown, almost black. Aroma: tropical fruit, grapes, fresh and minty hops and a fair amount of sharp vodka-like alcohol. Taste: rather sweet, licorice, rather bitter and spicy with a quite brutal alcoholic note.

Draft at cedar grove NYC. Surprised to see it. Deep blackish purplish color. Head fades. Taste is sweet and syrupy with boozy finish

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2017 Served cold at the brewery :( Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head that dies almost instantly. The nose is sweet with toffee and caramel notes, dried fruit aromas of prune and raisin about. A bit effervescent on the first sip with a first impression of a syrupy and rich brew. Rich malt profile with a bit of candy sugar and prune notes. Not overly robust but has a nice boozy accent. A good quad! Re-rated 750ml Bottle. Nice beer as I remember. Big toffee and malty beer with a nice bit of candied dried fruit notes. Prunes are present along with raisins, caramel, light bitterness. No alcohol presence really. Amazing when you let it warm up to 15 or 16 degrees.

Poured into a tulip glass. Two and half fingers of head on a deep brown colored body. The aroma is a great blend of caramel, apple, pear and other bright fruits. The taste has a big dose of caramel malt sweetness, some fruit, black licorice and mild bitter finish. The texture is fairly smooth with moderate carbonation. Very well done..

Nice strong milk chocolate colored head of fine and dense bubbles. Rich malty aroma with some milk chocolate, sweet malts, raisins and plums. Color is a deep mahagony brown. Lively mouthfeel with more raisins, caramel malts and a feint hint of tart cherry. Light alcohol presence which is quite surprising for an 11% brew. Surprisingly dry finish with lingering sweet malts and alcohol warming. A pretty good brew.

March 13, 2013 - bottle from Randalls. Dark brown pour with big head that lasted and lacing. Aroma was dark fruit, yeast, spice and sweet malt. Wow super sweet sugary start, then gets spicy, moves into the dark fruit and finishes with some dry alcohol. This is not subtle, the flavors are in your face.
