COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Butelka 0,33l kolor ciemny, piana średnia ale ładnie oblepia szkło. Piwo mocne, aromatyczne owoce i karmel. Smak słodki przechodzący w alkohol, mocne, owoce i karmel. Spodziewałem się więcej.

gEUS (1637) - Linden, BELGIUM - AUG 14, 2014
Bottle. Pours cloudy intense yellow with a steady head. Aroma is deeply malt, clearly pasteurised. Body is quite light to medium for a quadruple. Taste is a bit of green hops, but also a light sour yoghurt pinch. A mediocre Belgian beer, 13 in a dozen. On the plus side, the alcohol warmth is well hidden.

Pours a dark brown-amber with light tan head. Aroma is a fix of fruit, spices, wheat and some yeast. Taste is similar to aroma but with stronger fruit and spices and a yeast/wheat aftertaste.

33 cL portion at the Halve Maan brewery in Brugge. Black with a fair head, in bulb glass. Sweet, candied, with some bitterness. Smells sweet and a hint roasted. Tasty but a bit of sweet hiding the alcohol syndrome.

UPDATED: JUL 8, 2016 It pours dark brown with a light brown low head. It has aromas of cherries, rich malt, raisins, alcohol, and low chocolate. It has rich malt flavors and fruit. The flavors include cherries, alcohol, low vinous qualities, yeast, sugar and raisins. It has a full body that is somewhat chewy. It has a sweet and moderately bitter finish. Overall, this is a fantastic example of a Belgian dark strong ale with plenty of aroma and flavor that works well together.

porterhouse (1580) - Boothbay, Maine, USA - FEB 19, 2012
(750 ml bottle from Bootleggers) Dark brown with reddish-amber highlights. Pale biscuit head that is well-retained. Aroma of dark fruit and chocolate. Mouthfeel soft, smooth and full. Beautiful, well-retained sheets of lacing. Flavor of dark fruit, chocolate and luscious caramel. Not a trace of ABV. Elegant, big and outstanding.
