UPDATED: JUL 8, 2016 It pours dark brown with a light brown low head. It has aromas of cherries, rich malt, raisins, alcohol, and low chocolate. It has rich malt flavors and fruit. The flavors include cherries, alcohol, low vinous qualities, yeast, sugar and raisins. It has a full body that is somewhat chewy. It has a sweet and moderately bitter finish. Overall, this is a fantastic example of a Belgian dark strong ale with plenty of aroma and flavor that works well together. Japalo (1887) - DENMARK - OCT 17, 2012

Dark clear redbrown. Roasted malty notes. Raisins plume. Sweet dry. Well balanced. Nice spicy finish. Biased by a little cold.retasted 21/11-14. Rypevej. Huge dense lasting foam. Dried dark fruit. Molasses. Burnt raisins. Solid complex. Love it in a small dosis.
Wow, een geweldig bier, zwart met weinig schuim. Smaak is krachtig, complex en ietwat zoet met veel nuances. Zoethout, anijs, fris fruit en diverse smaken komen te samen in dit bier. Een absolute topper ! Abio (1868) - BERMUDA - MAR 5, 2011

Pours a dark brown-amber with light tan head. Aroma is a fix of fruit, spices, wheat and some yeast. Taste is similar to aroma but with stronger fruit and spices and a yeast/wheat aftertaste.

Pours in dark amber almost black color body, with hints of ruby againts the light. The head is light tan, pretty big and long lasting. The aroma has caramel notes, probably from the candi sugar, hints of toast, dried plums. Taste is heavy on high alcohols, caramel sweetness with high earthy bitterness, hidden by the sweet balanced. Body is full, oily texture, low carbonation. sdmmb (1857) - BELGIUM - JAN 14, 2017

Pours very dark with fresh spicy aromatics reminiscent of bath beads. A canopy of terminal velocity expands and sticks like a mary lou rettin face plant on the pony boy express. Medium nectar with good carbonation. Very rich and warming with flavors of coffee bean, plum, nectarine, brown sugar. Theres a defined acidity that really holds it all together balancing out all the sugar. The finish lingers long into the session. A classy ale indeed. thanatosti (1844) - Culemborg, NETHERLANDS - DEC 1, 2012
33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Mitra. Deep dark brown with a dense creamy beige head. Malty spicy caramel aroma with some red en black fruits. Tasting adds some coffee and roasted malts to it. Great full flavour, almost too sweet but just within the (my) boundaries. long aftertaste with some alcoholwarmth but the alcohol is very well concealed. Belgium has many great beers and this is certainly one of them,
