COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Caramel, toffee, bread, and dark fruit in the aroma. Flavor starts sweet and bready, with some fruit and spice. Finish is more bitter than I expected, with lots of drying alcohol and more spice flavor. Like most quadrupels, this has lots and lots of flavor--a really nice cold night sipper.

Bottle from Vinmonopolets BU. Dark brown. Foamy, tan head. Bigger head than most quads. Plum, ripe fruit, alcohol, wort and malt nose. A bit vineous. Red, ripe fruit flavour. Plum, dates, raisins. Alcohol, some herbs. Candy and cola. Sweet. Medium to full body. Lively carbonation. Needs to be served quite warm. Good!

Deep dark brown color with beige head. Aroma of dried fruits, toffee, caramel and some hops. The taste has sweet notes, toast, and dried fruit with a soft alcoholic touch. Bitter finish with dark chocolate hints. Great Quad!

Mooi donkerbruin bier. Heerlijk!

Bottle @ home. Bought from the brewery in 2012, enjoyed July 2014. Dark brown beer with a lacy head. Enjoyable quad. Obviously not as complex as R10 but a couple years aging has done good for the beer as its rounder and more enjoyable than fresh sample had in 2012.

Bottle. Nose is barley, yeast, dough, dark cherry slight cola, sugar, plum, figs. Taste is cream, plums, cherry, a little chocolate, brown sugar, dough, then moving to a soft fruitier finish with a little strawberry and burnt brown sugar. There a some vanilla elements around the cream, and a little sherry and oak character in the burnt finish. An excellent complex beer, which covers a lot of ground.
