Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Malty aroma with slight fruitiness like raisons. Poured light from bottle with barely any head. Clear coffee brown with edges of gold. Fantastic malty quad flavor. Light on the palate. Strong alcohol with sweet lasting after taste. This is a worthwhile Belgian quad. I will gladly drink this again!

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2017 0.33 l bottle shared with VIŠNJA666. Dark amber to deep ruby red. Diminishing off-white head. Dried fruits and jam. Sweet. Medium body, light finish. Nice, but not impressive.

Outstanding find in the unlikeliest of places -- a tiny market in Milford NJ (on the Delaware River, pop. 1,189). Wow. So nice I kept the bottle as a memento. Full bodied for sure. Once bottled it undergoes a secondary refermentation that "creates a living ale that can be aged and evolves over time". One nice sidelight -- evidently it's brewed in the tiny medieval city of Bruges which is circled by a canal that must be 500 years old. No cars allowed -- you park nearby and hoof in. A must see. Bottom line: do the Belgians know how to brew great ales or what? This quadruple has a alcohol content of 11%, but you wouldn't know it. Perfect at 55 degrees or so.

It pours very dark brown with frothy tan head. There are nice retention and lacing. Smell is saying this is a Belgian quad! Plum, caramel, toasted bready malt and and spices. Very complex taste of dark fruits, molasses, wood and peppery phenols. Sticky texture. Lively on the palate, very well carbonation. Warming and dry finish. Flawless quadrupel; delicious, mild and warmer.

Botella en Cerveceria Kraken (Oviedo) Sabores maltosos bastante marcados con algo de torrefacto, final dulce con toque de cacao

UPDATED: OCT 30, 2017 Bottle at the Hanging Bat in Edinburgh. Dark fruit aroma, dark pour with head that lasts fairly well. Dark fruits, caramel, vanilla, malt, smooth but full bodied palate. Complex, satisfying, really tasty, the best beer I've had in ages.

thanos024 (5) - - OCT 23, 2017 does not count
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2017 Dark looking strong beer. Sweet taste almost syrupy which makes it feel a lot stronger. Mild flavour but great taste and look overall.

W aromacie ciemne suszone owoce, chleb, karmel. W smaku rodzynki, sporo fajnej słodyczy, jakieś przyprawy, trochę takiej czekolady/murzynek robiony przez mamusię.

In credible taste with a diverse array of notes. My only critique is that this beer is somehow too "robust" and "dense"
