COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Very nice dark fruity flavors, grapes, Plums, raisins. Nice alcohol burn... very inviting, like a barrel aged quad. Tastes of vanilla, hints of chocolate, and toffee. Aroma is beautiful and pleasureful. Malt complexity of a well crafted Belgian brew. I love this beer and it only gets better with age.

Sweet malty and roasty nose, brown sugar, caramel, dark fruit, raisins, plum, cloves, chocolate, coffee, some alcohol; opaque ruby brown color, small, frothy tan head, dissipates rather quickly, thin layer reamins, good lacing; medium sweetbitter, roasty, coffee; full-bodied, oily to creamy texture; smooth bittersweet finish, roasty and fruity notes. A well balanced beer with well hidden alcohol. Great.

Bottle to snifter. Pours a deep, dark amber with thin, carmel head. Not much head retention. Aroma of sweet, roasted mild malt with suttle sour fruit and booze. Taste is roasty malt, light fruit, scotch booze, then a coca finish. Very little booze, not overpowering, malts are very well balanced. Awesome quad

Bottle. Aroma of raisins, molasses, fruit and alcohol. Dark brown, amber body with thin lasting head. Nice tan lacing. Flavor begins sweet, with subtle hints of bubble gum followed by raisin, molasses, dark bitter chocolate and a malty finish. Subtle coffee bean, bitter aftertaste.

Dark brown colour; beige foam, abundant, dense and creamy. Smell of biscuit. Taste of fudge, chocolate. A powerful taste, a beautiful balance. Tasted with cheese and meat terrines but definitively stands up on its on.

Bottle at De Halve Maan brewery, Bruges. Poured a really deep mahogany colour, with a big, dense beige head. Massive aroma of prunes, dates, dark malt, black cherries and herbs. Very smooth mouthfeel. Toasted malt in the flavour, with fruitcake and dark rum. Finish was roasted malt, burnt sugar, treacle and slight earth.

Poured from bottle. Served cold, a bit too much maybe. Head dissipates fast, yet the bottle is overcarbonated. Hence, palate is a bit too bubbly on the tongue. Aroma is sweet raisins, malt and caramel. Taste is absolutely wonderful, mellow, malty and candylike. Just a touch too much fizz in my bottle unfortunately. A great quad in all means.
