COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2014 Ottima quadrupel.

Backlog. Bottel shared with JMD at HNB 11.05.13. Dark brown. Fantastically nice beige head. Aroma of hops and berries. First taste is of dark berries, then of refreshing hops. Aftertaste is of dark malt with hop bitterness that lingers on. Average carbonation. A suberb beer, and the best quadrupel Ive tasted.

Beautiful beer. Draft at Cheeky Monk, proper glassware. Poured a really nice had which persisted throughout the session. Lovely, sweet nose. Flavor was big yet very approachable, none of the wild notes I sometimes find in Belgian strongs. Compared next to St Bernardus 12 and preferred the nose and palate of this one. Delightful!

Bottle at Boekencafe Schrijvers, Eindhoven. Pours dark copper brown almost black with creamy lasting off-white head. Aroma is very fragrant with malt, caramel, apples, melon, yeast, wine and alcohol with hints of dill and fennel. Taste is light sweet and light bitter. Body is creamy with good carbonation. Finish is heavy bitter with licorice, yeast and strong fruity notes. Very good beer!

Dark, really good beer. Creamy head. Slight after taste or would be perfect. I bought at random in a Liege Belgium grocery along with three others. This was definitely the best of the group. Not as sweet as Rochefort 10 (my favorite other than Westvleteren 12) but good enough that I will definitely recommend and buy again.

A very finely crafted beer, truly a delight. For 11 percent you might think this beer to be too strong, and although you definatley get an initial whiskey-like taste, it is soon followed by a sweet, caramel finish.

Ive never been keen on giving perfect scores but this beer comes really close to it. Ive heard about this beer in a magazine and it was called out as being beer of the month. By a stupid coincidence I stumbled across it two days ago. The bar we were in had it on tap also!! It looks astonishing. Served in the original glass it gives a huge creamy foamy head. The beer itself is dark, almost ruby red. Really mysterious. When tasted, your tongue will explode by all the flavours. Red fruit, different types of grains and candy sugar to name a few. And they all mask the alcohol in it. Because this bad boy carries a stunnig 11.2% knockout blow. I had two that evening and it was great. I can defintely recommend you this beer.
