COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Bottle @ home.

Wow, packs a punch but doesn’t actually taste 11°. Great balance, sweet but dry enough to make it slip down very nicely. The best in bruge so far.

Bottle. Dark brown with large beige foamy head, caramel aroma, high carbonation, roasted malt taste, full body, very balanced long finish. The strong alcohol content is very nicely balanced.

My Bottom Line:
Pecan pie and bubblegum mingle with charming flowers and cocoa in this most elegant Quadrupel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam decorates a brown that’s as shiny as can be (for that color).
-Body is light and fluffy, which is impressive for such a potent brew.
-The nutty character could also evoke chestnuts.
-Alcohol warms up the finish, but delicately so.

Bottle.

Quick rate to remember buy this also on next trip to Belgian border. Great quadruppel, full of dark fruity aromas, rich bodied and balanced.

Bottle. Pours black with big creamy beige head that lasts and leaves great lace. Rich aroma of caramel, toasted malts and bread dough of which the caramel is well represented in the flavor. Medium sweet and lightly bitter tastes. Average carbonation, chewy to oily texture, sweet candy and chocolate flavors, medium body and a smooth sweet finish. Hides the alcohol well. Yummy!

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2017 Een lekker, donker bier. Koffie, hop, houtskool. Deze quadrupel is niet te zwaar. Drink hem rond de 10 graden Celsius.

Bottle. Dark dark brown, zero light penetrates the beer. Frothy foam head. Aromas are quite fruity, potatoes, raisins, bubblegum. Boozy, sensation like breathing in hairspray. On to the taste. Sweet from the onset, cherries / cherry liquor, licorice, salmiak, dried apricorns, caramelized apples, gentle creaminess runs throughout. Sweet fruity high dominates. I would compare it to Gulden Draak, althought this is less fruity. Compared to Trappist beers, this is definitely much much fruitier. Interesting.
