COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Straffe Hendrik Quadruple is a rich and intense dark Belgian ale. It is brewed with a subtle blend of specialty malts, which give the ale an extremely dark color and a chewy, malty complex character. The quadruple combines a clean dryness with a warm full bodied mouth feel and essences of fruit. Secondary fermentation in the bottle creates a living ale that can be aged and will have an evolution of taste profiles over time.

It is brewed by the last active brewery in the historical city of Bruges. The town archives first mention the brewery in 1546. Since 1856, the famous brewing family Maes-Vanneste has owned the brewery.

Smells like dark fruits, sugar and alcohol. Tastes like figs, chocolate, brown sugar, dough. An excellent complex beer, which will be appreciated by lots of people. I will try to age it and re-compare.

Dark brown pour with a lazing beige head. Aroma and taste is medium sweet malty, dark chocolate, caramel, treacle, brown sugar, plethora of dark dried fruits, slight licorice, nice spices in there, very nice.

750 ml corked bottle, best before October 2016. Apperance is muddy brown, witha thick layer of creamy head that is built to last. Aroma is nutmeg, rasins, brown sugar, and sweet bread. Taste is a light bitterness up front, followed by nutmeg, clove, caramel, and rasin, finishes with some malty biscuit sweetnees and a touch of bitterness. Velvety mouthfeel, lots of carbonation, very little hint of booze. Overall, this a nicely balanced and complex quad, a very nice sipper on a cold winter night.

Bottle. Opaque black color that turns into dark red with a light. Light brown head. Aroma has plums, caramel, ripe fruits, licorice and coffee. Taste is first a bit sweet with some sour aspects but turns into quite dry and somewhat bitter long aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, licorice, coffee, port, plums, ripe fruits. Quite intense and interesting one.

On tap at the Yard House in Atlanta. Deep, dark mahogany body with a good head. Excellent flavor and aroma, but the aroma is too weak. (then again, the ale is too cold and this may improve with warming). Smooth body despite the high ABV. Medium-full. Rich, moderately complex flavor. Sweet but not cloying. Adequate dark fruit notes with suggestions of light spicing.

A pale amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and alcohol - showing that it is strong. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, caramel, and sugar. Powerful body. Thanks yespr for sharing.

I am very excited about this Quadrupel because it just is not as sweet as many of its kind. De Halve Maan have chosen a more hoppy and fruit tart interpretation of their Quadrupel, and it translates into a delicious aroma of dried fruit (prunes, raisins and figs) with wonderful flavor notes as dark chocolate, the aforementioned dried fruit, rye bread and dark caramel . Large vinous richness and a hoppy end contributing little citrus aftertaste. This makes the taste experience not so sweet as many beers of this type often can be. It is a beer for long-term enjoyment in good company.
