Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autum and is only available in a limited edition. The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years. The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer. The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered. With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well. Note: Cognac and/or Burgundy Barrels.

Bottle, 2011 vintage, 11/26/2012. Pours deep, dark brown, dense stable beige head with cohesive curtains of lace. Aroma is tart green apple and berries, candied fruits, yeast, faint caramel and vinous character. Taste is moderately sweet dark caramel malts with mild tartness, toffee, slight roast, dry woody chocolate bitterness in the finish. Medium full body, tingling carbonation. Ok, decent brew.

2013 heritage pours deep chestnut color, tan head. Aroma is fig, raisin, licorice, chocolate, dark fruit, some barrel character (I guess cognac), Belgian spices. Flavor is dark fruit, chocolate, fig, oak, Belgian spices, oak, sweet fruit, spot of strawberry almost, maybe cherry. Really pleasant, and well made. Great.

Bottle, 750 ml, from one of the bottle shops in Zagreb. Shared with rest of the tasting crew. Pours brown with medium sized beige head. Chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, dried fruit, wood, slightly sourish vinous. Moderate sweetness, medium to full bodied. Smooth. This was a 2013 vintage, seems that 4 years in cellar did good.

Cotteridge #3: 20th May 2017. Cheers Dan (The Osprey) for this beauty. Deep, dark brown body, tanned topping. Nose had some caramel like sweetness and sour dark fruits too. Taste is also caramel sweet, less fruity sourness, more woody and sweeter fruits flavour wise. Liked it.

kapusil (1432) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JUN 9, 2017
0.75l bottle, vintage 2015. Very dark ruby body with a thick light brown head. Oak aging becomes obvious after the first smell in the form of wood, vinegar and white wine followed by some orange zest, sour cherries and raisins. Taste of caramel, orange zest, white wine, lemon zest, vinegar, dates, pepper and floral hops. Wow, this is amazing.

Refrigerated 75 cl brown bottle 2013 poured into a glass. Clear dark brown with reddish highlights. Aroma is dark fruit, medium body, medium carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is dark fruit, dark candy, and oak.

Scopey (14778) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 30, 2017
Bottle at Cotteridge Convention 2017. It pours hazy dark brown with a thick beige head. The aroma is sweet, sticky, candy, toffee, fudge, wood, candied fruits, caramelised sugars and wood. The taste is soft, sweet, sugary, tangy, heavy sweetness, jammy fruits, warming alcohol, liqueur-like, stewed pear and apple. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. A bit sweet and sticky for my liking. Okay in small doses..

SarkyNorthener (4627) - West Bromwich (Yorkshire Expat), West Midlands, ENGLAND - MAY 27, 2017
