Bomber to snifter (thanks brew3crew). Looks good for the style; a semi-transparent brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells solid; smoke and sweet malt. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. A good example of the style. BeerandBlues2 (13307) - Escondido, California, USA - AUG 31, 2013
Bottle. Pours clear tawny with a small, frothy light tan head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is smoked malt and meat, dates, figs, and plums, earthy hops, caramel and cookie malt. Flavor is malt forward with substantial smoke, dark fruits, light hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium-light carbonation. decaturstevo (6244) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - FEB 15, 2014

Bottle shared by brew3crew. Pours a clear deep caramel brown color with a small and rapidly diminishing off white head. The aroma was meaty smoked malts, moderately sweet malt, hint of earth. The flavor was more meaty smoke, dark caramel and some woody notes. Fairly smooth.

Clear dark amber with a small beige head and some lacing. Aroma is peaty and caramel. Flavors of toasted malts, peat and wheat
UPDATED: FEB 18, 2014 Bottle, shared by brew3crew. Clear red / brown color. Thin-to-minimal bubbly khaki head. Little dots of lace. Smoke evident in the nose, some vegetable. Bigger body, smooth light carbonation. Viscous, but more dry in the finish. Nice big smokey flavor in the taste. Good savory. Little dark fruit, caramel malts. It’s got nothing on Aecht’s (this is more vegetal and rich), but still pretty nice 6/3/7/4/14 wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - APR 25, 2013
Re-rate during an RBWG 2014 bottle share, thanks to whomever shared this: Hazy dark brown, red color. Thin off-white khaki head. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Nice smokey aroma. Good, light dark fruity bready aroma. Moderate light sweet taste, light savory. Hint of spice. Very nice smoked doppelbock. Very solid. Pretty sweet and savory, though. I should love this, not a huge fan, though.
Tasted on 4/25/13 from a capped 22oz bomber bottle purchased at Frugal MacDoogal. Pours cola brown with a thin off-white head that quickly disappears. The nose is full of smoke with a nice amount of dark caramel malt. The flavor is a bit sweeter than I generally like this style, with tons of smoked malt and a touch of roast. The body is full with an almost syrupy texture, light carbonation, and a long smoked finish with a very interesting touch of black peppercorn. edgallow (4211) - nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUL 14, 2013

Flat dark brown pour. Not much of a head. I even forced it. Little bit of lacing. Smells like a malty doppelbock with a bit of smoke in the background. Tastes malty, with some raisin notes and a bit of smoke in the background. Sweet finish. Not bad.
