Draft. Brown with a little off white head. Aroma of malts and light fruit sweetness. Light body with some malt sweetness upfront with slightly tart finish. Very little carbonation.
It has a deep amber color with garnet tints. There is low head retention that is light brown in color. Initial aromas are malty rich with plenty of cherry. There are additional dark fruits including plums. There is strong, rich malt flavors with plenty of cherries and plums. There is some spiciness to it with some alcohol presence. It has a moderate feel with moderate bitterness in the finish. There is a slight tilt in balance towards the malt. The alcohol is slightly harsh. A bit mild for a Dubbel, BroJo hits all the necessary notes--tea, figs, apple, clove, candy, and yeast--but never gives much more than cursory glances at each. Can most likely from TJ’s in BHam but enjoyed at Eglin during CC conference. Pours a clear brown color with bronze highlights and bubbly carbonation. Very light aroma of yeast and bread dough. Wonderful beer but lacks the spicey phenols & fruity esters indicative of good examples of the style. The malt profile is wonderful, fully appropriate malt sweetness, complex caramels, grainy-bready sweetness. There is zero head to speak of, beautiful deep amber red color, crystal clear. The aroma is more abbey-esque with the malt profile shining through. Wonderful drinkable full mouthfeel that finishes moderately crisp with no lingering bitterness, very well done. Fairly moderate carbonation. Overall a nice interpretation of the style that is a wonderful beer yet falls far short of classic Trappist examples of the style or even the complexity of new world offerings by breweries such as Unibroue. However, it’s stylistic shortcomings aside, this is a DARN FINE BEER worth drinking again and again. The color of dark sweet tea, appropriate for a proudly southern beer. Doesn’t really smell like a dubbel. Tea and dark wheat bread crusts. Doesn’t really taste like a dubbel either. Mostly sweet malt.

12 oz can from total wine. Good nuttiness and sweetness. A little candy sugar. Some red fruit but that part is faint. A hard and unusual style to try to pull off. A little more thin and light compared to the classic Belgians but a worthy effort.
