COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Unobtanium, Illudium is an English-style Old Ale, but instead of being aged in whiskey barrels, we use cognac barrels. This imparts a wonderful, alcohol warmth and a slight spiciness.

rather legit, thanks to Joe S. for the birthday bottle, opened 7 months later .. quite sweet, toffee, sherry, nac, and sweet syrupy barrel .. . mouth is firm, carb is very low, sweet warming finish .. this is a winter sipper, but 91 degrees works too with cheese and 2 cats, great brew .. . . my arm was burnt with boiling engine coolant yesterday. it hurt. my arm now looks like a big blistered hotdog weiner..

From notes. Enjoyed at the 4th Annual Barleywine Tasting at Nicole’s house on January 28. 22 oz bottle. The pour is brown-ish copper color with a light tan bit of head left that vanishes in a hurry. The aroma is surprisingly complex. There is a nice caramel and some light chocolate with a light cinnamon and vanilla. There is a hint of french toast thing happening, and it’s really good. The cognac adds a level of sweetness that is just lovely. There is a light alcohol on the back end. The flavor is a little more alcohol forward. The booziness is a light deterrent, but the chocolate and caramel really do well. There is a hint of dark fruit on the back end and a light cognac barrel that I like. The mouth feel is a little light and crisp with a decent carbonation and a quick-fading boozy caramel. It’s surprising. Didn’t end like I’d expected.

At the Barleywine event. Vintage 2016. Aroma is sweet, caramel, toffee, barrel, booze. Appearance is amber brown, light brown head, somewhat clear. Taste is very sweet, barrel, caramel, booze, toffee. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, sweet booze aftertaste. Overall, eh.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Clear sparkling-copper pour with a minuscule, mushroom-colored head that’s gone faster than you can say “quick.” The aroma features liquor, caramel, cinnamon, vanilla and a vinous note. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with busy carbonation. The flavor is rich and boozy, offering notes of medium sherry, candied walnuts and maple syrup. There is liquor and maple-like woodiness in the finish. Kudos to newcigarz for providing this bottle of world-class beer!

Bottle. Brown pour with a white head. Sweet caramel and barrel aromas. Sweet with loads of caramel malts, oak, vanilla, and cognac. A bit boozy, which I like. Good body and mouthfeel.

22oz bottle of cognac BA English-style old ale. Dark brown hue with blood red highlights. Spot on with a malty/cognac nose & delicious dark, ripe stone fruit, sweet malt, aged wine, oak and chocolate notes. Full+ body and medium carbonation - loved it!
