COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Albert. Able. Gordo. Miss Baker. Bonny. Goliath. Between 1948 and 1961 these primate pioneers and others bravely went where no man had ever gone before, paving the way for manned U.S. spaceflight. This hoppy little monkey of a beer is a tribute to those Simian heroes of yesteryear. It has a citrusy, floral hop aroma, a strong malt body and a crisp finish.

Never heard of this brewery or beer but I’m a sucker for IPA’s so I grabbed it to try. Popped the top and got a bunch of pine, soft fruit and a nice sweetness. Taste is different, in a good way. There is a sweetness almost like molasses taste here and then a big punch of resinous hop bitterness. Super tasty stuff, one is not going to be enough. I’m pleasantly surprised by this.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2014 I prefer my IPA with a malt backbone and this one delivers. Takes some getting used to at first. Heavy on the malt, almost ESB like in the biscuity, bready side. Very well done. A unique IPA and one which I can't quite come close to a flavor comparison. Very well done!

Can. Cloudy amber body. Fizzy white head, mostly lasting. Aroma of toasted grain, pine, resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Big caramel malts in the taste. Thicker body than usual for an ipa.

Hoppy with a sticky mouthfeel. A nice balance of malt and hops. A little to rich to drink too many, but a nice IPA.

Happy to find this at the Publix grocery store in Tuscaloosa...big, oily, creamy, and with a monster head this slid down my throat with ease. Freaky monkey!

Dark golden in the glass. Fresh and very floral in the nose. The beer starts smooth, very floral and slightly sweet. The aftertaste is smooth, nicely floral hopped and not too sweet. Nicely bitter. A great IPA! --> 13/12/12/12

Draft - Luminous orange with decent head of yellowish foam. Palate is good but doesn’t have the strong backbone, but I think this is crafted well for Southern weather.

12oz bottle, thanks to Mike L. for bringing me this 2 days ago. Canned on date is 06/27/13........ Poured into my DFH IPA glass. Sheeeeeit. Can foams over once it’s opened. Pouring into a glass yields a huge 3 inch head, that continues to slowly produce more head as it sits. Starts to worm up over the top of the glass after sitting for a minute. Mostly hazy amber orange color. Caramel malty, citrusy, lightly spicy aroma. Some metallic. Bigger sweet taste, kind of cloying, something musty and awful about the taste, a pretty medicinal bitterness. Gets not as bad as I go, though. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Aroma and texture are not completely awful. Not as super malty and sweet as I’d expect a 9 month old IPA to be, but pretty malty still, and something else weird going on the taste. A pretty astringent bitterness.

12oz can into a pint glass. I’ve been looking forward to trying something from this brewery!

Pours a hazy brownish orange with a one finger white head. Nice fluffy head has good staying power and some pretty nice lacing on the sides of the glass.

Aroma has a very orange/tangerine quality mixed with an almost Belgiany yeasty spicyness. It is definitely unique but works quite well. Some bready malt comes through in the background.

The flavor continues the tangeriane and orange character almost approaching a dreamsicle-like flavor. Maybe touches of cream and vanilla in there. I love the hops in this one. Some light bready malt is present to lend some balance to the hops. High bitterness that finishes with a light sticky sweetness.

Overall, a very nice IPA that stands out from so many others being made by small breweries. An enjoyable beer and one to pick up should you come across it.

Fort Walton Beach can with a creepy cosmonaut monkey on it. Nice piney bitterness in the aroma. Flavor has nice bittereness but its missing some depth or complimenting flavors. Nice overall. Sweet, another Alabama tick.
