Very stout-y black ipa, or very hoppy stout - we decided the later - dark brown, nearly black pour - sticky tan lace - a lot of roast and leafy green hop character in the nose - strong woody hop flavor, but with a lot of roast and sweet chocolate flavors that compliment it well - dry, bitter, almost smoky finish - quite tasty. Pitch black pour with a thick tan head. The nose is a very hoppy with a distinctly earthy/minerally hoppiness. A little cocoa and earthy hoppiness. Softly cocoaish with a light coffee flavour as well. Fairly roasty on the finish with a lingering woodsy bitterness. Chewy palate. emmasdad (85) - , Colorado, USA - JUL 9, 2011

Pint at the brewery on September 16, 2010. A roasted hoppy black brew, the black board says. It’s dark, dark in color, like a very dark porter, with a frothy light brown head. Its hoppy malt aroma is actually pretty good. It has an extremely roasted malt flavor that’s pretty good as well. Almost tastes metallic, though. Can’t taste much in the hop department, probably because the heavy roast character is drowning the hops out. Very creamy and smooth. It has quite an interesting finish… something a little weird there. Anyway, I’d really enjoy this is they chilled out just a little on the roast and upped the hops just a tad.
