Bottle. This is a nice simple stout with some good roasted malt flavours going on. tombyars (1683) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - MAR 7, 2012
Tasted this at the Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in February 2006. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear ruby black in colour with a thick off white creamy head. Christmas spices present in the long intense aroma with cloves to the fore. Thin, oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a moist maltloaf base with woody blackcurrant fruit along with aromatic cloves, cinnamon sticks and nutmeg. Slight earthy tones to the dry prickle of a short bitter aftertaste. Finish is malty and sweet with vinous flavours present along with floral parma violets. An unusual dark ale and more of an Old Ale in style. Not for a session though! mr_h (5434) - Ayr, SCOTLAND - JAN 15, 2012

On cask at Cloisters. Pours a dark ruby - brown colour with a thick, light tan head. Aroma of caramel, coffee and Kopiko coffee sweets. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and a yeasty linger. Just OK. imdownthepub (14467) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JUL 16, 2011
Cask conditioned at The Abbotsford, Edinburgh. Dark brown with tan head. Quite a thinnish stout, not the depth of roasted malts I would have expected. Some fruitiness and a slight sharp flowery note. Not too sure about this. yespr (44807) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - NOV 5, 2010

Cask (handpump) @ Blue Blazer, 2 Spittal St, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 9DX.
Clear medium to dark brown color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, toffee, light hoppy, hay - dry grass. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, nice hoppy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
Floral, bitter sweet aroma. Almost black colour with mimimal head. Light, slightly sour plant like flavour. Light, thin, flat, bitter palate. This beer is not really to my taste. The bottle has nice artwork and the name has an interesting history. The brewery does produce other beers which I like.
