UPDATED: DEC 12, 2008 [draft at The Eternal Tap, Straub Brewery - St. Marys, PA] Pours a light golden color with a light white head. A grainy nose with an unusual taste, but very pleasant. Absolutely no aftertaste or bitterness. Very easy to drink. It tastes weird because they donít add sugar or anything else like most beers do. Go to the brewery. Take the tour. Drink from the Eternal Tap. It is amazing!

I picked up a twelve back to keep around the house for a quick thirst quencher and company. I thought I reviewed this one, another Homer Simpson moment!! Poured from a can to my shaker glass itís deep rich golden color was a real shock. Itís two finger fluffy white head that laced alright and retained quite well added to itís shock value in these old eyes. It has an aroma of corn and grass is subtle and the flavor is MUCH better than the TV beers, all of em except maybe Sam Adams. Light, clean and refreshing! Itís not the greatest but most certainly is worth itís price. This was a pleasant surprise!

So . . I actually like this beer. When I came of age, it was the only beer I could still find in refillable bottles. Thatís actually kind of awesome. Why recycle when you can reuse? Itís from PA, and Iím from PA. Aroma is slightly corny. Taste is more corn with a little metal. Mouthfeel and finish are light and short. A traditional lawn mower beer.

bottle @ The Andersonís / Columbus OH --- Clear light amber color, smooth white one-finger head, a few lace dots. Aroma of malt and corn, which I always find appealing. Taste is sweet malt, corn, and grass that moves without change to a carbonated swallow. Iím sure there are hops, but I canít detect them. A simple lawn mower beer, light, not at all filling. I think it is true to its mission, which is: "light, thin, drink several of them" simple.

Bottle. Light corn and barley malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet corn syrup and barley malt flavor. Light bitter hay finish. One of the featured beers at the 1983 GABF - must have sucked being a beer drinker back then. Luckily I waited until 1984 to start.

Bottle: Pours clear gold with a small, white head. Slight grain scent. Taste is honeyed, barley malt. Thatís about it..... Nothing awful, just a rather dull, grassy plain lager...............watery.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance had a semi-light bronzed yellow color with a two finger bubbly and moderately foamy (in the middle) white head. The lacing was somewhat there but slid for the most part. The smell had a light sweet corn to it but there wasnít much else. The taste followed the aroma. On the palate, this one sat fairly light on the body with a decent sessionable quality to it. The carbonation seemed appropriate for the style and for me. There was a decent smooth and crisp sweet corn finish. Overall, decent pale lager that I tend to have whenever I visit relatives in PA and not a bad budget beer.

Straub American Lager has a thin-to-medium, white head, a rather hazy, yellow-gold appearance, noticeable white sediment suspended throughout, lots of streaming bubbles, and some splotchy lacing left behind. The aroma is of sweet, biscuity malt and grassy hops. The flavor is of those elements, with a tiny hop bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Straub American Lager finishes crisp and refreshing, but a little flat on flavor. RJT

Clear golden colored body with a thin white head and sparse lacing. Lightly sweet grainy cereals, some citrus and stone fruits. Medium to light bodied, smooth carbonation, lightly sweet finish. Relatively clean and straightforward.

Bottle. Looks very light and pale. Light, crisp, sweet flavor, bread, corn. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet musky grains.
