COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What would the monks at Furness Abbey be brewing nowadays? Something like this? A belgo-influenced strong ale? With hints of spice? Why not?

gegwilson (3707) - North Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUL 19, 2016
Bottle from the Post Office in Hawkshead. Pours a cloudy chestnut colour with a thin cream head. The aroma has banana, clove, bread and toffee. The taste starts slightly sharp with citrus before more lemony citrus along with light banana, clove and yeast notes. Mildy sour too. Not quite what I was expecting, but OK.

330ml bottle from bottle shop in Keswick - Hazy brown body, thin off-white head. Nose is a bready yeasty malt, not too strong. Taste is a warming fruit malt loaf, little alcohol burn, tastes a lot stronger than the ABV. Nice one, Thoroughly enjoyable tipple.

Keg at CASC, Aberdeen. It pours deep brown with a small white head. The nose is dried fruits, brown sugar, fruit cake, earth and candy. The taste is cola, dark fruit, dried berry, fruit cake, plum, fig, candy and caramel with a sweetish finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Drinkable enough, but no real depth. Alreet.

Keg @ The Hanging Bat AROMA: fruity with hoppy overtones, strong smell of spruce APPEARANCE: amber, clear, minimal head, white foam, TASTE: light sweetness, lightly bitter, PALATE: light body, thin feel, soft carbonation, OVERALL: ok attempt at a Belgian dubbel, has not got the body and too much overtones in spruce and hop.

Dark copper, clear, no head
Aroma - red berry fruits
Taste - red berry fruits, soft yeast esters, some caramel toffee malts, slight bready yeast, fruity caramel
Palate - very little carb, thinnish body, quite oily. Finish as main flavour, touch of alcohol, bit too thin
Overall - Quite a tasty ale but it was too thin

Keg at Holyrood. Reddish orange copper, thin white head fades to nothing. Sweet candy fruits, soft caramel, dry honeyish thing going on on the nose. Soft malty sweet front, quickly overtaken by dry earthy hop flavours. Touch of roast, light resin, soft dry malt finish. Not bad, not great.
