Draft at The Boilermaker in Philadelphia, PA.
Pours a dark purplish-plum color that’s completely opaque with a one finger off-white head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Spotty lacing left behind.
Sweet boozy aroma with a nice spicy brandy barrel character. Dry oak and a strong brandy presence slightly overpowering the other notes. Booze and apple followed by sweet malt and vinous fruit.
Medium bodied with a strong barrel presence up front that lingers over the sweeter notes into a boozy finish. Dry toasted oak, vanilla and boozy brandy but not overly hot. The brandy overpowers a bit but as it warms, the sweet malts and vinous fruit notes come out. Hints of grape, plum and fig lingering into a spicy, dry finish. Really nice when it opens up. Poured a very dark brown color, somewhat flat body. Aromas and taste of boozey apples, brandy, dark prune, red wine, candy sugar, roasty malts. Too sweet and boozey tasting for me. callmemickey (4561) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 5, 2012
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 Deep brown body. Thin khaki head. Spotty, soapy lacing. Nose is full of dark fruits, caramel, a light vinous character and a general booziness. Flavor is less complex with vinous and brandy characteristics dominating. The complexities of a good quad are missing. Mexium to full bodied. Gentle carbonation. A light tannic acidity is present throughout. Even though this was more than pleasant, i’d have to consider this a failure given the quality quads Struise has put out in the Pannepot series. Draft at Farmers Cabinet. Black pour with a fizzy white head that dissipated quickly. Bourbon barrel dark red fruit flavors. Molasses. Raisins. Burned caramel apple. Some leather on the finish. Deep and complex. Reads crisp despite the heavy feel. Excellent!
