Bouteille. D’un orange trouble. Beau col. Arômes d’agrumes ainsi qu’un petit côté herbacé et malté. Goût résineux avec une touche de citronnée. Beaucoup d’effervescence. Well done!
330 ml bottle. Translucent copper pour has a small bubbly beige head. Earthy, woody, yeasty malt nose is complex and intriguing. Subtle, yet earthy roasted malt flavor. Notes of plum, mushrooms, overly roasted walnuts, currants and herbal hops. The hops are subtle, yet complex. Warming alcohol notes as well. Not your typical DIPA, though very enjoyable. Pours an amber body with a medium head. Strong hoppy aroma. Taste is bitter hops and not much else. Interesting but very narrow in its spectrum.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2016 I’ll admit that as a designer I’ve never loved Struise’s labels, and Elliot Brew might be the most uninspired of the bunch. Yet, there is something incredibly special for me, when I see the ostrich-adorned crest peering out of that dark shelves of my neighboring liquor store, here in the mean streets of Los Angeles. It’s been ten years since I first visited Carlo and Urbain after the launch of the brewery, at the beginning of my beer-drinking journey. I couldn’t have been luckier to sample some of their first brews, and I am so proud to see their work spread far and wide across the globe. Elliot Brew pours a beautifully muddy orange with a perfectly creamy off-white cap. It bills itself as a double IPA, but the nose can’t fool me. This is a Belgian beer. Between the layers of hops, lots of brown sugar, spices and estery aromas shine through. Bubble gum, blackberries, cinnamon, coffee — this is so much more subtle than the average American hop bomb. The flavor is surprisingly mellow. A smooth, creamy layer of vanilla custard forms the basis for a floral tingle of hops to shine. There is a Heisenbergian quality to the hops in this beer. They seem to only appear when you look for them. If you do, their character is sharp as a knife, and brings a satisfying bitterness that cuts through the mid palate with vigor. Putting your mind off of them, the deeper tones of molasses and cream seem to overtake the experience. Its kaleidoscopic nature makes this a fun beer to drink and explore. In typical fashion, Struise have created a completely original interpretation of the style.

Pours clear coppery with a fairly thick buff head. Aroma features caramel, fruity and hoppy tones. Fruity flavor has firm woody hop and subtle fresh malt notes. Mouthfeel has average fizz and body. Dark orange colour on the body, with lazy activity in it, a bit hazy. Two fingers of thick off-white head on top, with very good retention.
Aroma of caramel malts, oranges, biscuit, faint citrus, light tangerine.
Taste is quite bitter, with oranges, orange peel, citrus, grapefruit, pine, caramel malts, notable alcohol, grass, biscuit.
Medium thick body, good carbonation. Very dry on the palate.

Batch one so it’s been aged 7 years. Pours muddy brown with no head. Aroma of toffee. Taste is Carmel an dark fruits. Not a dipa anymore but aged quite nice
