Mmmm, really good stuff, but I don’t pick up much a the hop. After warming a bit out of the fridge, poured with a giant, fluffy, foamy, frothy, sudsy, light, pale tan head with some clingy lace. Color is super dark, perhaps clear or slightly hazy mahoganey with some sediment in the bottom of the glass. Aroma is first yeast, then malt, licorice, rye, wet grain. Flavor is like nose with an excellent sweet, tang, bitter balance. Body and carbonation are great. Finish is like flavor and has some legs with just a bit of alcohol warmth in there. Don’t know about the ipa designation tho. MiP (15667) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - DEC 8, 2011
Bottle, 10%. Good fruity and spicy aroma, black pepper, sweet chocolate. Very dark brown colour, seems clear. Good stable light brown head. The flavour is a lot like the aroma, not so fruity, but nicely spicy. Rather sweet, but nicely balanced by a good, warming alcohol note. The carbonation is a little high, but that is easy to get rid of. Leaves a good, creamy mouthfeel. JoeMcPhee (9427) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 24, 2012
Deep black pour with a tight tan-brown head. The nose has a lot of blak and red licorice and chewy herbal components. A little bit of very fruity aroma. A lot of plum and sweet red licorice in addition to some heavily roasted malt. A mixture of citrus and some nice coriander as well. Moderate alcohol noticeable. Clove and a bit of ginger. It's very rich yet balanced. Solid, solid brew. Unique.

Black body, small light brown body. Thick texture, full body. Aroma of uniper, ginger, licorice, alcohol, chocolate, coffee and smoky whisky. The taste is heavy sweet and light bitter.

Bottle: darkest brown pour with large tan head. Aromas of maple, currants, caramel, toffee and a minor alcohol note. Flavor is big on salted caramel with roast grains, cassis, and a minor dark chocolate note. Palate is mostly sticky sweet with a mild grainy chocolate bitter. This beer grows on you. Very salty. Eat accordingly and delicious. dwyerpg (6187) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - AUG 8, 2012
An easy five in appearance. The sweet sugary toffee aroma of the Belgian strong ale easily overpowers the hops in the aroma, to a fairly surprising degree. There is some hops in the body but again the sweet sugars from the Belgian part are really the dominant factor. A bit fruity in the finish even. Strange beer. But good. @ Saint Eugène. Black redbrown colour. Sweet (dark fruits, ahorn sirup) but also bitter finish and burned malts. Low carbonation. Very balanced beer. alobar (3793) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Pours cola brown with a tan fizzy head. Aroma of mint, chocolate, and dark fruit. Creamy mouthfeel with mint chocolate taste with wheat, citrus, and Belgian yeast. A bit hot at the end. Very nice and different beer. Well balanced. Bosbouw (2925) - Gemonde, NETHERLANDS - JUN 24, 2013
