4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 17, 2016 I’ve had the pleasure of tasting this brew during several different occasions from the tap and from the bottle and I must say this is by far one of the best Imperial Stouts brewed; bar none! First, I don’t even know if this should be in the same class with other Imperial Stouts; it has its own distinctive style. The appearance of this brew has to be one of the darkest stouts I have ever seen. The head was so thick and velvety brown head that it looked like a shot of espresso…superb! It had a magnificent scent of sweet chocolate, dark roasted coffee beans and molasses along with roasted malt. The taste is just out of this world. Started off with a blitz of dark chocolate, espresso, and roasted malts; followed by light vanilla hoppy presence and fruit flavors with a touch of bitterness. The mouthfeel wasn’t too thick along with soft carbonation keeping the brew from tasting too syrupy. The complexity of this brew is such that 13% ABV is totally absent until the glass is almost empty and then you begin to say Wow, this is one hell of a beer! For me this was like drinking a fine Port that I could have sipped all night. I can’t say enough about the brews that are being produced at the Struise camp, but I do know that the rating of number one brewer in the world is without doubt; justified! This brew has taken Stouts to a whole new level!!!
From tap at VCBF; pours pitch black with a brown head. Aroma is heavy malty, some coffee. Taste follows the aroma, very slightly sweet. Thick mouthfeel, low carbonation. Toasted malt in the long finish. Great! basjansen14 (387) - NETHERLANDS - JUN 9, 2017
Totally black body with a small tan head that had a crimson edge. Lacing was sparse. Vinous aroma of ripe fruit, dark chocolate, anise and molasses. Complex flavors of dark fruit, strong coffee and semi-sweet chocolate mingle with licorice, smoke and toffee. Hops stay hidden in the background; carbonation stays low; alcohol stays approachable. Like a fortified wine, best sipped instead of gulped. Mucho thankos to Sloth. Stew41 (2025) - Phuket, THAILAND - MAY 7, 2017

Served at room temp. Massively rich and full bodied but not crazy over the top. If this is 5yrs old this is a mere babe. Quite sweet but also very powerful. Will goes 10yrs+ with ease. Lacks a few smarts but time might heal.
Troszkę mi się chyba lewa warka trafiła, albo zbyt długo u mnie leżało. No cóż dużo czekolady, kakao, na pewno ciemne owoce w tle. NIestety również metaliczne doznania, które psuja trochę klimat piwa. Smak półsłodki to słodkiego - długi, raczej stabilny. Ciało półpełne, wysycenie niskie, tekstura taka oleista. Naprawdę niezłe czekoladowe piwo, tylko ta metaliczność.... i tak dałem mu fory. oobawa (1394) - Tennessee, USA - APR 17, 2017
2015 bottle. Such an enormous sweet stout, full of chocolate and molasses and dark, overripe fruits, an absolute monster of a brew. Nose almost comes across like a boozy Mudslide, thick with chocolate and coffee and a noticeable liquor back. Appearance is black as oil and almost as viscous, with a heavy brown head leaving no lace. Taste starts big and only grows bigger, massive Hershey syrup meeting Kahlua and anise, dried fig and black cherry meshing with a touch of black pepper and mild hop bitterness on the finish. Mocha fade gives up no heat despite the 13% ABV. A touch too sweet for me to be in love, but damned if it isn’t a drinkable beast, the smooth texture and lack of any burn making it scary how quickly my pint is disappearing. Let’s tick this baby up to 4, just for posterity’s sake. k92488 (484) - KVERNALAND, NORWAY - APR 12, 2017
DWF kull svart med flott skum men det forsvant. Aroma og smak fantastisk kaffe malt karamell vanilje litt alkohol. Utrolig godt men ble litt flat etter 10 15 minutter. DraftCaptain49 (23) - - APR 6, 2017
One of the most amazing beers I’ve had in a long time. Has that great, dank, dark sour taste that makes the most amazing beers, and it is a Belgian take on a stout. I was in Boston once and they serve fresh Belgians with this awesome sour taste there, it is the perfect beer, for myself. I honestly wish most beer was like this Black Albert beer. I like the craft brew stout, they can be quite good, but this one takes takes me back to the roots of why I became a beer fan in the first place a couple years ago. If I could get a six pack of this in the store and wouldn’t hesitate to regularly pick it up. I paid thirteen dollars for this and it was worth every drop. Belgians make great beer.
I wish I could visit the pub mentioned in the description, wow. andrei86 (19) - Iasi, ROMANIA - APR 4, 2017
