COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian Royal Stout was brewed as a tribute to one of America’s best pubs. Jennifer and Chris Lively who run the place may be proud of Ebenezer’s Pub. Not only do they have 35 beers on draught, most of these are hard to find Supreme Belgian Ales. Above that, they have one of the most extensive bottle-conditioned beer lists through different bottling dates we have ever seen. Not only can you drink almost any Belgian beer, the worlds best brewery’s are represented. A lot of the guests talk about the American Kulminator, yet with that difference that the Belgian inspired food, is simply great. Black Albert was brewed and crafted with a 100% Belgian ingredients. Pours a blacker than black beer with an inch of dark tan head that lingers as it cascades into itself. Nice aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate, fresh torrified coffee beans, barley, candy sugar, complex fruits, and floral hops. At the front, there is spiced baker’s chocolate, fresh mocha, caramel like barley touches, and underlying hints of dried fruits which marries the back of your palate and features a Top, and well integrated but not overbearing hop flavour. The after-taste is well balanced and shows a panorama of extreme sensations like chocolate and coffee bitters, a plum cake richness that covers the palate, and a crisp impression of hop bitters that brings elegance and freshness into this massive brew. UPDATED: NOV 29, 2012 $19 bottle from belgium shop online. Saved for around 6 months. Pours a dark molasses with medium carbonation and a foamy head that fades slowly. Huge and very complex aromas that explode the nose with roasted malts paired with candied malts, big tobacco (like someone left a cig bud at the bottom of the bottle), dark cherry, chocolate, wood chips, toffee and some others that I can’t find because of the high complexities! Extensively powerful and complex are the flavors next to the aromas! Tobacco, chocolate, and plum upfront with some touches of dark cherry, fig, slight coffee, wood, and some candy like yeast. Leaves a strong smoky aftertaste. Theres a slight hint of sour mixed with the stronger bitterness and medium sweetness. You can just smell the authentic 100 percent belgian products and craft that went into this beer. The best imperial stout I’ve smelled. Alcohol only comes in the nose a little! Must, must, must be drank very slow and siping in long intervals to truly appreciate the wonderful complexities this has to offer otherwise the alcohol and smoke will cloy the other flavors. Fantastic!

Great aroma: coffee, malt and chocolate. Taste : coffee again, malty bitterness/bitter chocolate and some dark fruit in the background. The beer is very dark, has a lightbrown head that stays for a while and the finish , coffee with cane sugar/ soft malt, lasts long. A real classic. A new favorite of mine.

Bottle from Sliterij Van Bergen, Eindhoven, Netherlands!
Bought in 2009, so its well aged. Pours deep black with a brown espresso head. Wide range of aromas. Coffee, Whiskey, chocolate, burnt malts, rhum. Taste is intense malty roasty, slight sweet, with lots of bourbon, vanilla and toasted malts. Long lasting burnt malty finish with bourbon and roasted coffee. Absolutely outstanding!!!

Bottle @home, (Clear out the cellar evening). Pours black, opaque, tan head. Nose fruit cake, Christmas cake, boozy, raisins, coffee, chocolate, licorice, ooooft. Taste is massive, there is a bitterness that gives way to a sweet finish, the taste is as the nose, huge fruit cake vibe and massive booze, you know this a strong beer and it does not hide it.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2017 At ’In de Verzekering tegen de Grote Dorst’ (bottle shared with Anke, luckily). Pours hazy jet back with a small, lasting, dark beige head. Intense smell. The aroma contains dark chocolate, coffee roast, caramel, hops & spices, roasted malt, ’jenever’ or ’whisky’, licorice, figs & raisins, some bread. It tastes heavy to medium chocolatey sweet and light roasted bitter, with a toasty, light hoppy finish; warming (and surprisingly well-hidden) alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Extremely tasty and deeply complex. What else can I say than this is world-class?

Zeer overtuigende gitzwarte zware Stout.

From tap at VCBF; pours pitch black with a brown head. Aroma is heavy malty, some coffee. Taste follows the aroma, very slightly sweet. Thick mouthfeel, low carbonation. Toasted malt in the long finish. Great!
