The Black Damnation series is a dark twist of Urban’s mind. His idea is to realize a dozen beers with the use of Black Albert, and over a period of two years, that are as black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and with a massive taste.

Black Damnation II is yet another blend with the use of Hel & Verdoemenis from Brouwerij De Molen. This time a level more complex than BD I. 50% of Black Albert was used that matured for a while on whole coffee beans out of a craft Columbian coffee plantation. 25% of H&V was used that aged for 6 months on JD barrels at Struise. Another 25% of Cuvée Delphine was used.

Beware: labels are the same, taste however isn’t. Some bottles are recognizable because of he handwritten 2 on them.

Bottle 33cl. @ Chris O’s Night of the Gaylords.
Clear dark brown almost black color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is light heavy malty, coffee, roasted, caramel, calcium, light to moderate yeasty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20091229]

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a huge dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of coffee combined with notes of roasted malt, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of coffee, roasted malt, and vanilla, combined with medium notes of alcohol, burnt wood, and whiskey, leading to a dry, roasted, and alcoholic finish. I like - it’s crazy, but wow.

[email protected] Chriso Gaylord Tasting. Black/very deep ambery brown colour with small head. Aroma is liquorice, toffee as well as some big time old coffeeish notes. Flavour is coffee, liquorice, some roasted malts as well as some dark dry fruits. Ends rather coffeeish and liquoriceish with a mild burning touch of alcohol.

A twist of the mind indeed! Thank you, Urbain, for this beer. Darkest black color with a small brown head. Aroma of anise, malt, and burnt espresso, like when you leave the espresso pt on the flame for too long. Flavor of licorice, malt, bitter cocoa, and earth. Dry bitter finish. Very different from batch #1, less coffee flavor. Just as wonderful.

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2012 bottle at home ... dark black ... thin tan lacing ... huge chocolate ... little coffee ... big whiskey ... big alcohol front ... lots of whiskey ... hint of iodine ... long coffee roast ... some chocolate ... rich heavy .. but lovely ... possibly little too much whiskey for perfection. 4.1 bottle at home ... dark black ... thin tan lacing ... huge rich malt nose ... big coffee ... massive coffee front ... rich bitter front ... over heavy coffee ... not getting whisky this time, ... 3.9

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival. Very black, beige head. Heavy coffee aroma. Sweet with full body and dense mouthfeel. Packed with espresso. Heavy and bold with resiny bitterness getting evermore evident. A sipper.

ChrisO ’Night Of The Gaylords’ tasting. Opaque black beer. Rich beer. Minerally malt. The coffee is light but more weighty than Black Damnation. Decent beer but not as good as BD 1.
