Lucky me ! At Struise school, freshly ice-distilled nectar. Black, oily, soft fizzyness with little foam on top. Served in a little tasting glass. Aroma is a concentrated version of Black Albert. It smells roasty, with hints of concentrated coffee, chocolate, rhum, vanilla and many things more. Taste is sirup like and very rich in the mouth. This is the most luxurious beer i’v ever tasted in my life. Rich yet ekegant, powerful and very refined. It is dominated with magnified sensations of coffee, chocolate, smooth alcohol, vanilla, rich burned malts and honey. Unique beer, a beer that plays on your emotions, a great treat ! Struise, a well ment thank you ! grunx (367) - - APR 1, 2011
Només comparable amb la Black de Mikkeller. Sense paraules. La cervesa ho diu tot. dimenhetfield (2486) - , Florida, USA - OCT 16, 2011
Big bottle shared with friends, I needed the help for sure with this bad boy. I’m not sure how to compare this beer with anything else that I’ve tried before. It’s just simply incredible for the size and ABV. It’s got everything. The pour is like jet engine oil. It stains the glass black instantly and has super long legs. The flavor isn’t just booze, though it is still quite boozy. The ABV is obviously super high but still it’s easy to sip on. kimjongill (207) - - APR 3, 2013
This beer might be the fourth(???) I’ve ever given perfect marks to. It is 26%, but drinks like a 10% beer. The pour is black with minimal dark-tan head. The aroma and flavors are both very complex and full. In all, this drinks like a perfect version of Black Albert, which is a well crafted, yet deeply flawed (IMO) stout from Struise. The smoke and bite that overwhelm in Albert are present here, but well balanced with a malt that brings the flavors together in a way similar to Mikkeler Black Hole, but far superior in execution. Dying to get my hands on a bottle now... Abio (1868) - BERMUDA - SEP 24, 2010
UPDATED: JAN 25, 2016 From tap at the beerfestival at De Molen. A black body, a brown hughe head. Very lightly sour, good bitter, coffee. Weird it’s not overdone like I expected, really still (slowly) very enjoyable. Ofcourse the alcohol is there, but it’s not kicking like crazy.
Retasted at ACBF: What a beer to complete my day! Didn’t overrated this one for sure. Tasted some new batch. Seems less good as before. More alcohol, less flavour. And served way to cold @ Brugge. And after that another batch wich seemed to be at least that good as the first one, and the batches I tasted after that all did have the quality... The more I’m tasting this one, the more I’m loving it, and now it is one of my favorites, besides the ridiculous ABV. I need more from this one!

5/04/2011 on tap @ Struise Oud Schooltje (2011-134) Thanx to Urbain!
Completely pitch black beer, beige to brown creamy head, very stable and adhesive. Aroma: caramel, fruity, berries, mocha, chocolate, wood, dusty and some yeasty notes. MF: light carbon, full body, extremely thick and texture like heavy whipped cream. The beer is almost chewable without being cloying, amazing. Taste: mocha, dark chocolate, cream, vanilla, wood tones, charcoal, very earthy touch to it. Aftertaste: sweet caramel, hops, spices, ginger, alcohol pricking in the back of the throat but also on the gums. This is some serious stuff. Why not 20/20? Because there’s 7 more to come! ;-)
Bottle. Pour is outrageous. Incredibly thick and totally black with a deep red/ brown lasting head. Just beautiful. Aroma is surprisingly subdued with hints of dark roasted malt, dried fruit, faint tobacco, and some alcohol notes as it warms. Flavor is awesome. Rich, deep, roasted malt with hints of dark fruits and very very little alcohol. Finish is long with notes of toffee and rich sweet malt. Palate is so wonderfully soft and luscious. Sticky and huge but quite drinkable for 26%. This is one of the best beers I have ever had. The only thing I can even consider deducting for is the somewhat subdued aroma with a touch of alcohol. So good. GilBier (75) - Dendermonde, BELGIUM - DEC 15, 2008
Incredible viscosity and almost oily, this liquid tar even holds carbonation and forms a small but good looking brown head. Aroma is rich, roasted and boozy, with interesting sensations of dried raisins soaked in brown Rum, coffee chocolate and luchious sugars. This (Beer) is so thick and rich that the taste stays in your mouth for minutes. Its was offered and served in a small sample glass by master brewer Urbain himself. Thanks Struise for this unique treat. lululegrand (94) - gent, BELGIUM - DEC 24, 2008
Thanks Carlo for letting me taste this hard to get monster. Pours a thick and oily black nectar with a head on. Slight carbonated and very rich in the nose. taste is creamy and oil like, it is sweet, super delicious and it is a magnifications of its smaler brother Black Albert. Rich and hot on the pallet with a panorama of endless sensations of coffee, cocoa, Bourbon and soft alcohol. Carlo proudly served us this beer a small liquor glass.

Super noir, Ultra black and oily with faint fizz on the pallet and a small brouw mousse on top. Aroma is super concentrated, hints of black coffee, cocoa, bourbon, wood and sweet caramel with a roasted accent. Taste is pure luxe, sweet, hot, roasted, toasted, vanilla and so much more. Aftertaste is long, very very long. A special edition by the Struise boys for Christmas. FANTASTIC !!!
