[email protected] & Sim’s Wedding. Black colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is roasted malts, some plum/raisins notes as well as fruity and floral notes with mild liquorice lurking. Flavour is a bit berryish, plummy/raisiny as well as slightly liquorice, alcohol and some quite strong fruity and floral notes as well. Quite bitter. For once a Black IPA with attitude!

On tap at Mes&Sims wedding - thanks guys! Opaque black beer. Soft semi dry palate. Rich deep dark malt, plummy and figgy. A trace of raspberry jam. Mild hops, a little piney bitter. Finishes dry with a lingering tingling hoppy bitterness. Whisper of bubblegum as well. A really nice and quite unusual Black IPA.

Bottle at RBWG Asheville Grand Tasting. Pours clear brown with a bubbly, white head. The nose has moderate roast, brown bread, burnt wood. Medium sweet flavor with woody dryness, bitter cocoa, near thy bitterness, dried dark fruits. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Light warmth to finish with more bittersweet baking cocoa, earth, wood. Not bad.

Koelschtrinker (21064) - K?ln (Cologne), GERMANY - DEC 18, 2011
12/11/12/13//12

Bottle split at home with JF, from that online Belgian shop - name escapes, 02/08/14. Black with a well appointed tan covering. Nose is light charr, dark malts, spice, pine, earthy hop, thick dark toffee. Taste comprises dark berry fruit, cocoa rub, pine, dark toffee sauce, spice, liqourice. Full bodied, fine carbonation - a touch cloying at times, boozey notes in the close. Decent enough offering but no world beater, came over more imperial stout than CDA for me.
