(Rating #10,000) Bottle… Pours black and opaque with no head. The nose offers rich notes of fudge, dark chocolate, port and medium-dry sherry, dates, dark raisins and a rumor of dried plum. Full-bodied and chewy with adequate carbonation. The flavor is red-hot. Ouch! Charred malts and burnt chocolate are layered upon a huge, boozy, vinous, alcoholic foundation. Bottle. Dark brown/black pour with fleeting kaki head. Oil like sheen. Sweet Port and caramel bouquet. Sweet caramel and chocolate with huge booze notes. Oak and vanilla backbeats. Bottle - Pours dark black with brown head, almost no carbonation. Nose is port, chocolate, figs, currants. Taste is fudgy dark chocolate, port, vinous, dark berries, figs, currants. Damn tasty!!!

Almost opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is viscous and quite silky but still has good fine carbonation. Rich dark malts, soft and thick. A bit of coffee liqueur and dark chocolate liqueur. Trace of marmite. Spice. Very mild wood. A little blackcurrant and surpressed red berry fruits. Malt cream before a smooth and slightly spicy finish. Impressively drinkable for a 22% beer. I remain frustrated with Struise, they appear to have retreated from most of Europe and the few beers that do make their way out are nothing like as good as this.
bottle with friends, many thanks bros. pours murky dark brown with a small light beige head showing minimal retention and lacing, acknowledging it is clocking at 22%. peppery and slightly perfumey booze, very warming (duh), burnt caramel, vinous and liquorous, slightly ashy, hint of metal, acrid coffee berries. light to low carbonation, medium to full body, sticky, boozy and peppery-piney finish. interesting experiment.. result is a-o-k. Pours jet black with low beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of apples, fruits, chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol, coffee. Taste is of extreme alcohol, very ashy, roasted malt, coffee. Bottle shared at a tasting. Oily black pour, no head. Aroma is really rich, volatile alcohol carries tons of chocolate, fudge, light winey aromas, port, roasted grain, thick caramel. Taste is rich, boozy, intense mouth coating chocolate and port flavors, roasty bitter finish, very very rich. Palate is mouth warming and coating with still a bit of carbonation. Bottle (750 ml). Side by side with Kabert. Thanks to Evan for this one! Deep black with a small beige head and little alcohol legs. Aroma is of port with the expected alcohol presence, dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruits and hints of liquorice. Taste is of dark chocolate at first followed by port and light acidic notes along roasted malt, alcohol warmth and molasses. Ful bodied. Moderate carbonation. Liquorous. Long lasting warming finish, but not burning. Rich and so complex. Balance and "drinkability" are amazing too considering the abv. I was expecting a tiny bit more considering how good were Double Black and Kabert when I had them a few months ago, but this is still a world class RIS.
