Clear dark brown beer, aery beige to brown head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sour, bit vinous, earthy, tobacco, lactobacillus, Rodenbach foederbier a-like, some (balsamic) vinegar. MF: good carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sour start, lemony, sour cherries, red sour berries, some vinegar. Aftertaste: very sour, lemon acidity, little bitter, some chloride, red berries, tobacco. I like this one a lot, even if it will increase my reflux tonight. Don’t care! :p
UPDATED: MAY 17, 2012 Sample @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pours hazy reddish golden with a big frothy pinkish offwhite head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is sweet and sour with sour cherries, cherry pits, lemon juice, barnyard, wheat crackers, hay, grapefruit juice, lemon zest, vinegar and hints of gastric acid. Taste is intensely sour with lemon juice, sour cherries, grapefruit juice, gastric acid, barnyard, lemon zest, cherries, gooseberries, unripe currants, wheat crackers and subtle hints of sour milk. Mouthfeel is mouthpuckering, tart, dry and medium bodied. Finish is tart and sour with sour cherries, lemon juice, hay and lemon zest. One of the sourest beers I’ve ever had. Burns your insides but in a good way. I find it quite good but can see how it would be enjoyed in rather small quantities. I especially like how I was warned buy the Struise crew when I ordered this :) Ungstrup (38384) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - MAY 24, 2012
