COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Previously 13% abv, 11% abv from 2014->. Black Albert was used in a new barrel aging project. More than a year ago, Carlo was able to get his hands on a stock of Four Roses Bourbon barrels, and we happily filled them up with Batch „0". This unique creation was originally to be named 4 Black Roses in honour of its heritage, but our friends in Kentucky strongly advised us not to do so! What to do? As the disowned offspring of Black Albert, the name Cuvée Delphine imposed itself. Savouring the Belgian irony, we are most honoured to have artwork by Delphine Boël shining on this label. You will not find this ale all over the globe. There is no export program, but we will try to provide stock through our web shop and some specialty beer pubs.

2012 Vintage. 4 brown tan head, black body. Nose: Coconut, espresso, vanilla, dark bitter chocolate, malt, dried fruit and bourbon. Taste: Coffee, dark bitter chocolate, coconut, vanilla, licorice, espresso, soy-sauce, booze, dark bitter chocolate and bourbon. Long bitter ending.

Bottle. Pitch black with a lasting foamy brown head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, dark fruits, treacle, fudge, coffee. Taste is of chocolate, caramel, dark fruits, bourbon,blackcurrant, treacle, figs, fudge. Slick sticky oily mouthfeel, soft to medium carbonation.

Robe brune dense, fine mousse crémeuse beige, peu persistante. Nez sur le malt torréfié, le chocolat noir, la réglisse, les levures, la café au lait, le caramel, touche de single malt. Bouche à l’attaque onctueuse, superbe note lactée et cacaotée, bulle onctueuse et crémeuse, longueur impressionnante et finale parfaitement équilibrée. Un très grand Stout à boire au coin du feu...

2014 vintage, on draft at a super-secret pub in Maine. This is an incredible combination of New World, full-flavored, high ABV imperial stout and Old Work Belgian craft. The barrel flavor is strong, with a sharp whiskey flavor, but the silky mouthfeel and smooth chocolate flavor of Black Albert are very prominent as well. Phenomenal.

Bottle 2009 vintage poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lasting brown head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, roasted malt, dried fruit, oak and light bourbon. Palate was medium to full bosied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, dried fruit, oak and light bourbon with a smooth lingering fruity chocolate finish.

Pours a motor oil color with a bigger, bubbly beige head. A beautiful lacing coats the surface of the glass entirely after a few minutes, regaining its fluffiness after swirling. Smells of milk chocolate, dried orange peel and a flowery barrel quality. The barrel consists of old oak, peppers and cinnamon, amped up by the fruity orange peel. Offers a lower carbonation with tiny bubbles to it, producing a nice refreshing aspect to the otherwise creamy malt foundation. Maintains a pleasant balance, with a lighter mouthfeel and only a note of Bourbon becoming recognizable. Tastes of dark chocolate with lots of cream, fudge and a pleasant warmth, bringing the barrel to the palate. It consists of dried lemon peel, black pepper hull, a flowery hop note and cinnamon, leading to a soft milk chocolate and toffee sweetness. Finishes with a warming bite, more peppers and toasted malts among caramel and a faint fizziness underneath the cream, topped off by rock sugar. Sweet and warming with just a peppery, spicy note of Bourbon amongst a nice chocolate creaminess. This too brings the De Struise typical sweetness to the palate, while the body of this is huge enough to process it playfully.

12/4/14 (Bottle, from The Festival poured by Urbain himself! Black Albert’s fruitiness matched with new mocha and char. Body remains lighter and peppy with bright carbonation, as with the base beer. Not in the same category as the big bad bourbon stouts of American ilk, this is much more delicate with a lot of dried fruit notes, even licorice that wouldn’t show up in the former. Really glad I got to try this.) 4.1.
