COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Previously 13% abv, 11% abv from 2014->. Black Albert was used in a new barrel aging project. More than a year ago, Carlo was able to get his hands on a stock of Four Roses Bourbon barrels, and we happily filled them up with Batch „0". This unique creation was originally to be named 4 Black Roses in honour of its heritage, but our friends in Kentucky strongly advised us not to do so! What to do? As the disowned offspring of Black Albert, the name Cuvée Delphine imposed itself. Savouring the Belgian irony, we are most honoured to have artwork by Delphine Boël shining on this label. You will not find this ale all over the globe. There is no export program, but we will try to provide stock through our web shop and some specialty beer pubs.

Bottle from 2009. Nose of oak, chocolate, cherry, berries. Dry, classy, mineral flavor. Dirty, with espresso, oak, phenols. Dry, dry, dry, with dust and apples. Tannic. Great, classy, old-world BA stout.

2012 bottle, many thanks Werckmeister! Pitch black color with large beige head. Aroma is black chocolate, caramel, vanilla, nutella, some green peppers, brown sugar. Taste is vanilla, black chocolate, burnt wood, surprisingly sweet (compared with the Black Damnations I've had recently), a touch spicy yeasts, some cherry and brown sugar. Silky mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation. Beautiful!

A personal favourite since I started drinking good beer and probably one of the first barrel aged stouts I ever drank. 2013 vintage tasted in 2017. Poors jet black like the deepest winter nights. The nose is an immediate hit of chocolate, roasted coffee and vanilla. Burnt bread, charred onions in smell and taste. Black liquorice. Body is relatively thin for the type of beer. Light but consistant carb. Bitterness you get with burned toast keep popping off giving this vintage an off flavor.

First expression - boozy and thick. But then - its not so hard to drink it. There is something strange in this beer, unusual. Notes of whiskey, then liquior. Sweet, coffee, hay... black as night. Aroma is nice. Then it becomes little bit hard to drink. Really strange beer - but normal of Struise. I see people dont like this beer and people that say - my favourite. Anyway - one of the best beers.

330 mL bottle. 2011 bottle originally reviewed 11/29/2012. Black with less of a head than Black Albert. Similar thick mocha collar. Nose is light bourbon with a touch of barrel character. Chocolate and cherry comes through, similar to Black Albert. Strangely, not as boozy smelling as the 5-year-old bottle of Black Albert I had. Tastes of vanilla and bourbon up front, but subtle. Much more of the cherry flavor followed by rich chocolate. The bourbon is back in the end along with a bitterness that I find strange. Falls a little short of the base beer here. Well carbonated. Pretty chewy aside from feeling a bit too overcarbonated at points. I prefer Black Albert to this, although this is quite good on its own. Just seems that some of the characteristics that make Black Albert great have been pushed aside by the barrel, which isn’t strong enough to be the centerpoint of the flavor.

Super dark coloured brown body with a thinnish, oily slick of a tan head. Aroma of very rich malts, soy sauce, a bit of caramel, malt and a big dose of anise throughout. Full-bodied; Strong rich roasted malt flavours with some oats, grain and alcohol front and centre. Aftertaste shows much more of an assertive matl characteristic and a deep pungent bite of anise. Overall, a nice rich beer with plent of malt and even more self pungency and depth than I saw at first.A nice beer, but definitely pungent and bitter throughout. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from SuperMarket Liqours in Fort Collns, Colorado on on 05-June-2017 for US$6,99 sampled in my hotel room later in the day.
