"Vintage 2005"
Our PGR has aged for 24 months on oak barrels and has been bottled for the first time on the 27th of December 2007. The main difference with the Pannepot Reserva is that PGR matured the last ten months on Calvados oak barrels, adding extra complexity to the beer. We dedicate this beer as a tribute to Jeppe & Michael of lbutikken in Denmark. Those gentlemen were the first to discover our beers on an International basis back in 2004 and are responsable somehow for our beers being all over the globe since then. As a token of gratitude towards Jeppe & Michael, the first shipment of PGR was scheduled to lbutikken so they could be the first to launch its commercialisation.

Thanks to fredrik and Ludvig! 2008 bottle. Very dark reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma: malty, sweet licorice, apples and calvados, light chocolate, vanilla. Taste: Bassets Liquorice Allsorts and other sweet licorice, chocolate, malty, fudge. Full bodied. Wow, this is tasty!
2005 bottle. Aroma: chocolate and lots of vanilla, less licorice than in the 2008. Taste: vanilla, cherries, rowan berries, licorice, more sour than the 2008, also some sort of sour candy. Medium to full bodied. On its own, the 2005 bottle would receive a lower rating due to the sour red berries in the taste. Nothing wrong, I just prefer the other. (8-9/4/8/4/16=4.0-4.1)

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2017 Vintage 2011. W aromacie figi, rodzynki, fenole, śliwki suszone, ciemne owoce, drewno, nuty beczkowe.

Bottle at Cambrinus in Bruges with commonshawn, rosskyle, samalito, and dubtully. 2012 edition. Quickly dissipating head on a deep, dark brown ale. Heavy cloudy nature. Nose is assertive and leads you to believe it?s big on alcohol. Dark fruit is very prevalent. Maybe a hint of chocolate. Taste has plenty of chocolate and a healthy dark fruit balance. Sweetness present. Mouthfeel is silky and smooth. Hard to find the alcohol which could prove dangerous. This is what Surly Darkness wishes it could be on its best day. Exceedingly drinkable and instantly makes me want another.

Grand Reserva 2010. [email protected], Tampere, Finland. Medium/strong, soft aroma with dark fruits like plum and cherry, some licorice. Dark red color with no head. Strong, soft, balanced taste with raisin, cherry, some licorice. You really can taste the softness and maturity. Medium taste spectrum and medium aftertaste with plum. Medium/light body with medium carbonation. Overall, superb, almost too soft and matured which also affects negatively to its distinctive character.

Bottle from Brewcraft, drank at home. Pours an opaque dark brown with thin fizzy beige head. Smells of dark fruits, plenty of figs, plum, apricot, moderately raisiny, bready malt, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar, lots of warm booze, nice deep leathery note, tiny bit of mushroom, light stony/mineral bitterness, thick and aged with a plum/fig tartness. Taste is burnt roasted dark malt, sharp dried fruit tartness, lightly bitter herbalness, very sharp finish - a bit thin compared to the nose. Body is very smooth, a bit acidic, faintly chalky, dissipates delicately. Aroma is rich and complex, a bit raisiny. Big and boozy but still manages to be fine/delicate.
