COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew colleague Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

4 oz. served into a tasting snifter at ChurchKey. From notes; 2010 vintage. A: Pours a dark ruby color. The head is little more than a thin khaki film. Still, its very stout-like in appearance. S: There are some evident tones of nuts, dark fruits, oak, and spicing here, however its not nearly as evocative as I expected. What is here, at least, is well balanced and pleasurable. T: The opening is mildly nutty and spicy. This will progress into a middle of earthy toffee, with a light oak finish. Solid complexity, but the flavors themselves arent blowing my mind. M: Its medium bodied in texture. The alcohol (seemingly in typical De Struise fashion) is well concealed in spite of its (also seemingly in typical De Struise fashion) dry finish. Very drinkable, as well. O: Decent, but pretty disappointing. The only brew from De Struise this night that didnt wow me. Mayhaps the keg isnt in fantastic shape? This would probably be better if it were bottle conditioned, in fairness.

From 330ml bottle. Pours dark brown, little head despite being quite dizzy at first. Aroma is sweet winter fruits and malts. Tastes of prune, dandelion and burdock, port, oak and sweet caramel. Quite a complex and lasting finish ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012 from Uba ja Humal in Tallinn (was around 6-8 euros). Pours reddish brown with initially big yellowish beige head that fizzes away leaving nearly nothing. But damn, the aroma. Superb... dark baked and dried fruits... figs and dates and apples, apple skin and caramelised sugar, and even a bit of chocolate, slight vinegary notes, port wine, wood and raisins soaked in wine... so nuanced! Tastes very sweet, fermented fruits (the usual suspects, plus a bit of old strawberries), caramelly notes (almost burnt caramel), toffee somewhat, woody and tanninic dryish in the finish. Fizzy but fine carbonation, medium body, excellent drinkability and covered alcohol - theres only a nice soothing warmth after downing half. Wonderful stuff, although falls short of mindblowing... I guess for me its pretty much on par with the rest of the best strong Belgians Ive had.

Vintage 2012.
