COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew colleague Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

This is the beer you work up to. You start your quest, try different shit here and there, sign up for rate beer, rate a little, maybe do some trades, and then this ends up in your cup. And at that point you tell yourself it was all worth it. This is such a delicious beer. Read all the other reviews if you don’t believe me.

Reserva 2012. The aroma is malt, caramel, dates, raisin. Pours very dark brown with fully diminishing beige head and excellent lacing. The taste is sweet. The body is medium/full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish lively. Not as great as I was expecting but a damn good Belgium Strong Ale!!

Bottle, vintage 2010, courtesy of SinH4, many thanks! Pours dark brown with a medium but short lived foam. Aroma is dark dried fruit, ripe fruit, oak, fig, raisin, candy, soft booze. Body is heavy, quite sweet, but not overwhelming. Lively carbonation carrying the dried fruit and oak flavours over to a warming and boozy palate. Intense, but well balanced and extremely drinkable. Smooth and nice. Very good, worth all the praise!

[2012] W aromacie karmel, zioła, wanilia, bardzo bogaty. Smak to głównie słodkie owoce, banan, zioła, ściągający, wytrawny i dość długi posmak. Wysycenie duże, to trochę przeszkadza. Dobrze ułożone i bogate, beczka mu służy.

2012 bottle. Pours very dark redish brown almost black with a frothy beige head. Loads of dark fruit, christmas pudding, roasted nuts, oak, banana and a sour vinous hint. Taste has all the above fruits and spices. Really alive at first with big acidity, but all that settles a bit and a rounder maltiness appears along with a much smoother mouthfeel. The acidity though, is really bothering me.

Reserva 2016. Like cold coffee, pours without head. Unlike the appearance, the taste is right. Overripe plums, raisins, red wine, red fruit. Very long finish with a bit of wood, dry, but still a lot of fruit. Some alcohol comes in as well.

Much nicer than regular version. Not that much sour aftertaste. Apples and dry fruit aroma. Nice alcohol balance. Not too belgian yeast. Good.

Mooi zwart bier. Parelende crèmekleurige schuimkraag die redelijk snel inzakt. Geuren en smaken van kruidkoek, pruimen, dadels, port, donker fruit. Licht alcoholisch, warme soepele afdronk. Overall een schitterend bier.

Dużo owoców, czerwonych i suszonych, melasa, trochę nut przyprawowych, drewno, szlachetny alkohol. Półsłodkie, winne w odczuciu. Średnie ciało, wysokie wysycenie, niska goryczka. Świetne.

Echon (535) - Århus, DENMARK - JUN 22, 2017
(2012 vintage) Very dark red, almost black. Full and powerful, with a sweet yet smooth taste. Highly vinous, with plenty of dried fruit and some spices. Some barrel notes. Dry and lightly bitter finish. Medium body, and smooth mouthfeel. Overall, a great strong ale. Strong, tasty, highly vinous and quite smooth. More mellow than the normal version, but then again, this sample is 5 years old.
