4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
2006 bottle...holy god am I ever impressed by this beer. The nose and flavors brim with figs, raisins, plums, cola and toffee. Mouthfeel is a tad on the thin side but appropriate for the style. If I had a St. Bernardus and a Westy 12 in front of me, I have little doubt that I would favor this in a blind tasting. Happy to have a few of these in the cellar.
330ml bottle, 2013 vintage, enjoyed at home. Pours dark brown with little head, thick with some residue in the glass. Aroma is incredibly complex and has astounding depth. Caramel, figs, plums, pepper, spices, Candi sugar, dark roasted malts. Heavy body with a nice thick and intense mouthfeel. Flavour is similar, with incredibly complexity and depth. Caramel, very sweet, lots of interesting sugar flavours, spices, plum, coffee hints, kardamom, cinnamon, and in general quite some spiciness and roastiness. Finishes warming with a fruity, slightly boozy and roasty finish. Amazing stuff. KevinReddirt (182) - Midland, Texas, USA - AUG 18, 2017
With Amsterdam the starting point for a Rhine River cruise I was able to go into De Bierkoning. This 11.2 oz bottle was one of a handful I was able to purchase and bring home to taste. It gets tilted into my Rochefort glass leaving a dark mahogany body. The head, a light brown, diminishes immediately but there is a steady stream of foam rising in the middle of the glass. The scent is complex, there is fig, cedar, caramel, all very inviting. I drink and the taste is incredible, malt, more of the caramel, dark fruit, cherry and leather. Very full in the mouth, chewy I think. Just a touch of bitterness finishing. No anticipation it would be so interesting. How will I ever get another? beermastersasho (41) - - AUG 16, 2017

Donkere, vrij zoet degustatiebier. Vergelijkbaar met de betere wijnen. Een om van te genieten! jjunghun2 (10) - - AUG 8, 2017
UPDATED: AUG 8, 2017 Dark deep brown colour. Medium carbonation. Ripen plum scent and taste. Winey character. A bit boozy since its vintage(2016).
Great beer overall.

Monday, August 7, 2017. Bottle 330 ml. Bought at Belgium in a Box in Antwerpen. Served in Trappist glass. Pleasant sweetness. A "dark taste" for a Belgian Strong Ale. Reminds me in some ways of Imperial Stout. You can say that this kind of beer is more like a good wine.

Från 2015 så två år gammal.
Doft: torkade fikon, Rom, coca-Cola, honung, nötter, torr & papprig.
Len, liteoljig, en del kolsyra kvar ändå!
Smak: mycket metallsmak i början, Rom, torkad frukt, lite kryddig, torr i eftersmaken, coca-Cola, bränt socker, välbalanserad. mkt fin! Inte för söt! jari87 (17) - - JUL 30, 2017
Caramel, dry fruits with some underlying herbal notes. Full body with nicely balanced caramel, nutty and dry fruit notes. A bit of alcohol warmth. dorain (423) - Berlin, GERMANY - JUL 29, 2017
Aus der Flasche Version 2007 (bbe 2013) im 2016-11 getrunken. Pannepot kann allen Stärken eines dunklen schweren Belgiers voll ausspielen. Feines Teil mit einer wunderbaren Reifung. DarkMagus (542) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 23, 2017
Can’t believe I haven’t rated this one! Pours a deep reddish brown color with a very thin head that didn’t stick around long. Aroma of dark dried fruits: cherry, date, raisin, sugar cookie, light spicy notes, caramel, and alcohol. Flavors were more dried dark fruits, snickerdoodle, brown sugar, treacle toffee, cacao nibs, alcohol, tobacco, wood, and a tiny hint of bitterness. Low carbonation, but featured very tiny prickly bubbles. Complex, nuanced, one of my favorites. Rich full-bodied mouthfeel, sticky and slick. An amazing beer.
