COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Bottle - Vintage 2007 - Mollases, anise, prunes and dark fruits. Black/brown with almost no head. Sour cherry, prunes, brown sugar and dark fruit. The sourness has me believe this beer is past it’s prime, but still enjoyable.

33 cl bottle; 2006. Dark, opaque brown color with a huge rocky tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, like dates, and roasted malts. Medium body with sweet notes of light stone fruit and treacle. It goes on like that, and the finish is lightly sweet, but nearly dry. It’s not a bitter finish, but it is incredibly tasty. Wonderful ale.

Scopey (15427) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 20, 2011
UPDATED: APR 29, 2011 2010 bottle at Het Oude Schooltje, thanks to Carlo. It pours very dark brown with almost no head. The nose is full of dark fruit (date, plum and raisin), liquorice, varnish, caramel, clove and has a medicinal quality. The taste is caramel, plum, fig, currant, prune, coffee, liquorice, crème brûlée, clove, cinnamon, caramelised bananas, dark sour cherry, menthol and has a long lingering alcohol warmth. It’s very complex, packed full of flavour and still remains very drinkable. Tastes just like Christmas pudding, awesome!
