COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the Pannepots, or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fishermans Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Coventry. Advent Calendar day 9. Very deep ruby to black colour, with a thin off white head. Fruity berry and soft fruit aroma with light toffee. Taste mid sweet, certainly not over sweet. Thick and sticky body.

Kauge (1660) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - DEC 4, 2016
Bottle, 2016 Vintage. Pours real dark, like red wine with a bit of black ink. Heads small, diminished to nothing in seconds. Aromas lovely, its burnt caramel, red fruits, both dried and soaked in red wine, rather dominant black cherries, woody. Tastes of overripe or almost gone off red fruits, woody, red wine tannins and dryness... not too good to be honest. Harsh, kinda acidic and on top of that very dry on the palate. Seems overrated, at least this batch here and/or this young, it just doesnt grab me, doesnt impress in any way. Aromas the best part. It probably gets better when as it ages.

Pannepot when brewed correctly is a good beer. Now and then I open one, an all round classic. The last three Pannepots I have had over the course of the past few months have all been infected into a nasty sour mess. I dont remember the what a good Pannepot is supposed to taste like anymore. All I know is this vinegary, light bodied, sour thing called Pannepot, a beer I used to like. I hope to try a good one again some day, until then I sadly have to lower my score.
