2006 Bottle (3 yrs old). Slightly dry fruit, cherry nose. Very deep brown with light white/tan effervescent head. A sweet/alcohol balance with dry fruit and cherries carrying the flavor. Very much a quad-esque beer with its fruit, sweetness and light spiciness.
Pours a fairly murky deep brown. Nose is amazing, so much going on. Fruity and caramelly, plum, fig, raisins some indiscernible sweet notes. Can't think of another beer that smells close to this. Taste follows the nose and is way more fruit forward than yeast forward. There is a bit of sourness but, to me, little alcohol heat. Full bodied and medium carbonation. Very unique beer. bonev (938) - POLAND - SEP 15, 2017
Vintage 2016: Duzo przypraw, suszonych owocow i belgijskich akcentow.
Bottle, Vintage 2013, to celebrate my 5th anniversary of joining RateBeer - thank you, Nils! :-) Pours cloudy coffee brown with airy dark tan head. Complex, dusty aroma with notes of caramel, chocolate, yeast, malt and fruit. Sweetish flavour of fruit, yeast and caramel malt, enriched by bitter notes of coffee and hops and some dusty touches - the bottle is well past the BBD :-) Lingering, bitter and estery aftertaste with sweetish, fruity hints. A truly grand beer, Gentlemen! Cheers! friendlyforest (1) - - AUG 30, 2017 does not count

330ml bottle, 2013 vintage, enjoyed at home. Pours dark brown with little head, thick with some residue in the glass. Aroma is incredibly complex and has astounding depth. Caramel, figs, plums, pepper, spices, Candi sugar, dark roasted malts. Heavy body with a nice thick and intense mouthfeel. Flavour is similar, with incredibly complexity and depth. Caramel, very sweet, lots of interesting sugar flavours, spices, plum, coffee hints, kardamom, cinnamon, and in general quite some spiciness and roastiness. Finishes warming with a fruity, slightly boozy and roasty finish. Amazing stuff.

With Amsterdam the starting point for a Rhine River cruise I was able to go into De Bierkoning. This 11.2 oz bottle was one of a handful I was able to purchase and bring home to taste. It gets tilted into my Rochefort glass leaving a dark mahogany body. The head, a light brown, diminishes immediately but there is a steady stream of foam rising in the middle of the glass. The scent is complex, there is fig, cedar, caramel, all very inviting. I drink and the taste is incredible, malt, more of the caramel, dark fruit, cherry and leather. Very full in the mouth, chewy I think. Just a touch of bitterness finishing. No anticipation it would be so interesting. How will I ever get another? beermastersasho (91) - - AUG 16, 2017

Monday, August 7, 2017. Bottle 330 ml. Bought at Belgium in a Box in Antwerpen. Served in Trappist glass. Pleasant sweetness. A "dark taste" for a Belgian Strong Ale. Reminds me in some ways of Imperial Stout. You can say that this kind of beer is more like a good wine.
