Alengrin (5888) - BELGIUM - JAN 31, 2017
BBA tripel by Struise, shared vintage bottle of several years old at GBV’s New Year’s reception in Gent. Creamy, moussy, egg-white, stable head, deep hazy orange blonde colour with ochre-ish tinge. Pleasant and enticing aroma of oloroso sherry, moist gingerbread, honey liqueur, brown bread, yellow raisin, pineapple slices, calvados, wet oak, stewed apple, sugared rhubarb, vanilla, hay. Sweet onset, candied fig, banana mush and yellow raisins, some vague orange, low basic sourishness underneath, medium carbo, bready and honeyish malt (and residual sugar) sweetness working towards and increasingly boozy finish, ending in a lot of obviously very bourbon-like, heating but non-wry alcohol, some earthy hops, a touch of drying woodiness (could have been a bit more tannic to my taste, though) and retronasal maderisation. Rich and delicious, thick and boozy, very ’Struise style’ beer, very elegantly aged.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2016 Piana spora, dość gruba, mydlana, ale całkiem trwała. Barwa bursztynowa z pływającymi licznymi drobinkami drożdży. W intensywnym aromacie baaardzo przyjemna wanilia i świeży kokos, do tego jasne winogrono, białe wino, rodzynki, kandyzowane owoce, syrop klonowy, bourbon...
Takie Triple to ja mógłbym pić znacznie częściej, zdecydowanie jeden z najlepszych tripli, jakie dotychczas piłem! W tym przypadku beczka w 200% zrobiła to, co do niej należy.

2012 keg on draft at Stumbling Monk in Seattle. Poured into glass with large bubbly head. Dark, slightly dirty golden color. Cannot see through it but it glows. The beer is slightly stale and old with a mild leafy barrel and aged golden malts (stale crust). Its sweet Belgian sugars. The esters are restrained with few banana esters. The barrel is not overpowering. Would actually like to try this fresher.
