Bottle. Simply a very fine beer. De Struise don’t muck about. This highly refined, strong, spiced and slightly sweet with a celery flavour in the finish. Excellent balance of bitter and sweet.

ebone1988 (1972) - Dearborn, Michigan, USA - AUG 23, 2016
2013 vintage. Aroma is figs, dark fruit, caramel, spice, barrel, booze. Appearance is brown red, light tan head, hazy. Taste is caramel, toffee, spices, woody, booze, dark fruit, figs, perfect for winter I imagine. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, toffee and bourbon barrel aftertaste. Overall, a pretty impressive Christmas beer.

Best before 12-12-2012.

Iznogud (3919) - CROATIA - JUL 31, 2016

Very lively lazily fobbing from the bottle and all over the tablecloth, Daisy wasn’t best impressed! In the glass its a lightly hazy bright amber- marsala like with a fluffy beige head that soon disappears. The nose is a little oxidised, sherry flor, wood, cardboard, a touch of mint like a few of the older Fullers vintages I’ve had. In behind is a rich syrupy tinned fruit note and a little ginger. Zippy carbonation, big mouthfeel, quite minty, fruity, very little sign of its 10///5 and that bourbon is very much in a supporting role, the way it should be. There’s a tongue numbing almost peppery warmth to it, but little bitterness, its all layers of wood, Christmas cake fruits and malts. There’s a very decent beer hiding under the oxidation and I’d like to try a newer release if one is ever forthcoming. Cheers Ian!

Deep golden, lingering low head. Aroma earthy, candi sugar, floral hop tones, dried fruit, bourbon version has also bit of coconut and vanilla tones. Palate medium, low carbonation. Taste bubble gum (tutti frutti) - dried fruit, vanilla, candi sugar and very well rounded imparted cask tones - wood and vanilla which rounds it a bit compared to non-aged versions. Alcohol extremelly well hidden - drinkable. Very nice, albeit the standard version lacks the nuances of bourbon reserva. Better than sherry version also.
