Nice wine barrel nose. Sweet dried fruits and caramel. Bit of musty wood. Sweet caramel glaze and honey sugar in the taste. Not so clear port there. Otherwise similar to other versions.

033 bottle. Pours deep copper, white head. low retention. Complex aroma of malts, sweetness, dark fruits, hints of vanilla, toffee, honey, meadow flowers. Taste is malty sweetness, hints of dark fruits, caramel, fruity acidity, burnt sugar, lemony notes. Sweet aftertaste, slight tartness, warming alcohol

BOTTLE 33 CL. Clear dark copper, compacted sediment, diminishing beige head, latent gushing. Vibrant sweet sugary dried red fruit, sweet dessert wine, light musty notes. Similar luscious sweetness, not alcohol whatsoever, light musty bitterness. Very good, but seems a bit flawed.

Goudbruin bier met crèmekleurige schuimkraag. Aroma van alcohol, vijg, pruim, mout, suiker. Erg zoet, licht droog op de nasmaak. Flink wat co2, volle body. Melig in de mond.

2013 vintage, bottled July 2014(?). Quick warning: this one’s a gusher. Rose quickly out the bottle and poured with a gigantic head even if done slowly. Cloudy, dark copper with big specks of sediment that looks more like dirt. Aroma is dominated by sugar (syrup, candied fruit, raw sugar); it’s like walking into a candy store! Some yeast & very subtle spice in the background. Tastes as you’d expect with a lot of sugary, fruity syrup notes on arrival like canned fruits. Port notes in the middle. Finishes spice, yeast, & booze. Warms up with a bit more of a funky taste (from yeast I suspect). Light body with a lot of carb that stretches the body out even more. Really hot with alcohol after a few minutes. Not bad but not one of my faves from Struise.

The Port variant of Tsjeeses is something special. It’s a spicy, malty Belgian holiday ale in the traditional sense, yet it tastes like nothing else out there. Brown pour that has red hues when held to a light. Smells like port, fruit preserves, and toasted barley. Prune, fig, plum, raisin, berry, vinous noir grapes, candy sugar, and honey flavors. The booze comes through just slightly. There’s a fat malty sweetness yet it’s countered by some complex spiciness. The feel is velvety soft. Were it not for the price tag and somewhat limited availability in my area, I would spend a lot of time with Tsjeeses.

Bottle. A- Caramel, butterscotch, raisins, candied plums. A- Brownish orange color, cloudy liquid, beige head. T- Candied dark fruits, caramel, complex. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- A very fine beer. This one had about 3.5 years of age and it showed beautifully. Very smooth for 10% and drank almost like a port wine. Not too strong or too sweet, just really balanced and complex.
