A 330ml bottle of 2013 vintage, bottled on July 2014 with a best before date of 15th August 2019 and poured into a Duvel tulip glass. It poured a cloudy dark orange bronze colour with a fluffy two finger light tanned head with good retention that leaves nice spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet and fruity plum, apple, grape, fig and red wine with hints of caramel and vanilla. Tastes of sweet apples, orange, port, grapes with oak woody notes and caramel malts. Very rich, medium bodied with medium but strong prickly carbonation. Overall, I wish I had the original non barrel aged version of this to compare to. However, this Port BA version is very good. Even at 10% the alcohol is well hidden and being Port BA I was a bit worried that it would be too sweet but its actually at a good level. A great barrel aged Belgian Strong Pale Ale that I would get again next year! Rask0lnikov (1257) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - DEC 25, 2015
Quite thin white head. Golden bronze colour. Some berries, red wine, caramel, and raisins in the aroma. Some caramel in first taste. The alcohol of the port, raisins and sourness of the berries in the middle. Some spicyness with the sweetness of the port and caramel again in the afterraste. Medium bodied, nicely balanced, medium carbonated, good belgian strong ale. VDuquerroux (1647) - Airvault, Haut-Poitou, FRANCE - DEC 25, 2015

Medium sweet, light sugary, warming background ; light dry bitter ; balanced. Full body, average texture, light oily, medium carbonation, sweet warming finish, light woody. Donker, licht zoete Tripel, vol van smaak. Subtiele Port tonen. Redelijk wat koolzuur, mooie schuimkraag.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Review from notes. Had it side by side with the regular version. Slightly hazy dark amber color with beige head. Aroma is more simple than the standard version, there is definitely no barrel character. More bitter and effervescent. Stronger belgian character. I definitely preferred the standard version.
