Can (bought in Tokyo, sampled in Osaka)maekchu (3847) - Hirakata, JAPAN - APR 30, 2014
Clear golden color, small white head. Rubbery, ricey aroma. Light-bodied, watery palate. Sweetish rice malty flavor, light rubbery notes. Suprisingly tastes like a low alco beer.
Can from convenience store. OMG - another light sewery nose, this with rotten oranges. Very pale straw (near champagne) color. Thin but quite rasty grassiness, cardboard (screaming spirits), and a final sugar coating. Thin body. I hear tell that zombies are attracted to the odor. Best stay away from this one. Can at Ibis Tokyo Shinjuku - shared with Mette. Hay notes, light grainy, ok citrus notes - not really any hops, thin, light green, water finish, KansaiBeerLvrs (5098) - Kyoto, JAPAN - FEB 16, 2014
UPDATED: FEB 19, 2014 88 yen can from Circle K, served in a pilsner glass. It pours a deeper gold than I expected with a thick fizzy fluffy head that leaves a little lacing behind. The nose is vegetal(possibly cabbage?) & some light noble hop spice/bitterness, again not great but not as bad as I thought. So far it is comparable to other budget lagers in terms of look/smell. The body is oily, slick with a thin mouthfeel but a harsh carbonation-gassy. The taste is... fairly tasteless almost no malts, light bitter finish then grass & cardboard in the aftertaste. After a bit I get an ash-like taste... Bought at the shop & drunk soon thereafter cold it is a pretty bland brew, the tastes that come through start off ok but then off-flavors begin to reveal itself... I am reluctant to drink the regular Shine Malt but as I got the can I may as well bite the bullet for the tick. But not today, one of these is enough for now. This beer seems aimed at broke people & cheap students looking to get hammered as while not god awful it doesn’t really have many redeeming features. Better than the regualr Shine Malt... that truly sucked. petewhitley (560) - Nagoya, JAPAN - NOV 4, 2013
