COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Formerly Sudwerk Pilsner.

A Northern German-style Pilsner brewed in Northern California. Our pilsner is brewed entirely with pale two-row Weyermann, true to the style. A special blend of Bavarian Hallertauer and Tettnanger hops are used during brewing, adding to the sharp finish. Winner of the coveted “Brewers Choice” award for 25 consecutive years and counting.

Crisp....really crisp. A common claim for pilsners so I guess that is the desirable feature, and this one overachieves at that. Overall, it is a a lot better than macro lager. The ugly nuttyness that dances with Saccharomyces pastorianus is on full display. Sudwerk brews up some good stuff, but they make styles that are not my favorite. So "great for style" is final verdict.

12oz bottle from Whole Foods Los Altos. Pours a really damn pale straw color with a one-finger white head and good lacing. Aroma is grassy hops, pale malt, and some graininess. Very nice. Flavor is good but just a little buttery. Pale malt and grains with a nice hop bite which is very grassy and a little floral. Crisp on the palate with medium-light body and some real hop bitterness. This isn’t a favorite of mine overall, but for the style it’s very solid.

clear slightly pale water with bubbles and a thin layer of white fiz, wonderful fresh floral spicey hop nose, flavor is direct and clean, slight hop spice flabor cuts through with a very nice balance of bitter to malt ration and dry at the end, great refresher for a hot east bay night

illidurit (2354) - San Francisco, California, USA - MAR 5, 2010
12 ounce bottle poured into a pilsener glass. Pours clear pale gold with a fluffy white head leaving some spotty lacing. Aroma is nice fresh bread, none of that corny character you get with lesser pilseners. Very bread crusty. Flavor is grainy and bready with light floral hops, maybe even a miniscule fruity tinge. Not really a snappy crisp beer; body is a tad bloated for the style. Minor bitterness, a little sticky on the finish. Nothing special.

Light sweet bready aroma with good grassy notes. Clean pils aroma. Pours pale yellow with a thinnish head that leaves after a while. Sweet and bready up front, somewhat sweet grassy notes in the finish. Light peppery bitterness rounds it out. Rather light, drinkable, and clean.

Bottled. A light golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of straw and some malt - quite clean. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and some bread, leading to a medium bitter finish.
